Last week I wrote about director-performer Michael Lucas and his big-budget XXX twist on “Dangerous Liaisons.” The final scene involved many extras and celebrity cameos, including RuPaul, the Lady Bunny and others, including “Village Voice” columnist Michael Musto, who spoke to me about the shoot. He revealed more about the shoot in a recent column: “I can finally say I worked with Gus Mattox and it’s chatting in a fucking nightclub! I’m referring to the highbrow cameo I just shot in Michael Lucas’s dirty version of ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ — not rimming, fisting or felching, mind you, just innocently posing around a gallery scene filmed at Quo, where the only fluffing was of my peanut butter sandwich.”

Mr. Musto goes on to quip that “it was fun being filmed for anything” and the other “nonsexual guest stars were a scream,” including RuPaul, “who joked that his role was ‘the cum dumpster. Chug-a-lug.’ But Lady Bunny wasn’t taking loads; in between smirking to the extras, ‘All right, I want those cocks out and I want them hard,’ Bunny busied herself with sardonic shrieks of ‘I won’t bareback without drugs — again!'” Check out Lucasentertainment.com for a DANGEROUS LIAISONS blog and Michael Musto at Villagevoice.com.

IT’S NOT PORN, IT’S ART
John Cameron Mitchell, the impresario and force of nature behind “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” has spent the better part of a year on “Shortbus,” an upcoming indie film that promises explicit sex. I’ve mentioned it numerous times here in the “Adams Report.” It was announced this week that Q Television Network will executive produce the film. The network will retain television rights, but the film has yet to land a theatrical distribution deal.

I have a lot of respect for Mr. Mitchell, but “Shortbus” might engender more than a yawn from me if we hadn’t already had to suffer through “Brown Bunny” with its explicit blowjob, or “9 Songs” from Britain with hardcore hetero fucking, or Catherine Breillat’s “Anatomy of Hell” and “Romance.” Geez, even “Inside Deep Throat” contains intact clips from the original film, which itself is now playing midnight shows again.

Then there’s Wash West’s porn oeuvre, from NAKED HIGHWAY straight through THE HOLE, all of which combine hardcore sex with a genuinely compelling storyline and way-above-average visuals.

“Shortbus” is described in the press release as “sexually provocative” as it “follows seven characters in modern-day New York through an exploration of sexuality, art, and music.” I’m not saying filmmakers shouldn’t explore the use of explicit sex in their work, just that it shouldn’t be hailed as a groundbreaking moment in the history of cinema. Hardcore fucking may be rare in mainstream film, but it’s not unheard-of. Back in August, Fleshbot.com wrote about “Shortbus” and said, “We’d argue that there’s less of a divide between ‘porn’ and ‘indie films with explicit sex’ than [Mitchell] might think, but the final result should be interesting, provided he gets the funding to finish.” Mr. Mitchell got those funds, so look for the flick sometime this year.

NEW RELEASE DESK
As I wrote in a past column, the worldwide marketing and promotion of the Bel Ami line is now being handled by Colt Studio Group out of San Francisco. They have a pair of new titles on tap: BOYWATCH 5 and ENCHANTED FOREST. BOYWATCH 5 is a twist on the casting couch genre featuring thirty Budapest hotties wanking it during their audition process (ten were later selected to star in a Bel Ami feature). Hunky Marty Stevens directed.

ENCHANTED FOREST is right in the Bel Ami tradition: Beautiful young bucks romping in a bucolic setting. From director George Duroy, the cast includes Liam Phoenix with Steve Jennings, Sven Olafsson (his fourth for the studio) and Ethan Clarke, Mark Aubrey (his seventh appearance) with Sascha Chaykin, Brandon Manilow and Christian Bissett, and in the final scene, Eric Simon with Alex Orioli.

For the record, Mark Aubrey, Ethan Clarke and Brandon Manilow are three of the eight Bel Ami beauties who were featured in the February 2005 “Interview” magazine swimwear fashion spread. The studio is on the web at Belamionline.com.

Arena Entertainment sent out a poster and promotional information for their new Tyson Cane Videos line. Mr. Cane and Enrico Vega, his partner in the now-dissolved Tyson Vega Videos, have gone their separate ways. The new line also boasts an exclusive: performer Kanye East (music lovers are, right now, either chuckling or rolling their eyes). Tyson Cane produced, wrote and directed OHBOYSESCORTS.COM (nothing like a little cross-promotion with your porn, eh?) Mr. Cane also manned the camera, shot the still photography, arranged the lighting, decorated the sets, composed the music, executive produced, and, for all I know, sent out for Quizno’s during the lunch breaks.

OHBOYSESCORTS.COM features Merrick Barraje, Fellipe Eller, Dimitri Santiago and Manny Ortiz, with newcomers Luigi Armani, the aforementioned Kanye East, Igor and Marcus Williams. Visit Tysoncanevideos.com for more.

Arena also has SPECTRUM from Salamander Studios (billed as “a division of CyberBears”) and director Mike Zillion. Good ol’ Steve Pierce heads up a mostly unfamiliar cast: Alex Geoffries, Trip Harden, Randy Ho (seriously, that’s his name), Ron Moore, Rappallo (where’s he been lately?), Dusty Rivers and Steve Verga. The title apparently refers to a color scheme tying the scenes together: “Not quite over the rainbow? Dive into SPECTRUM…”

Chi Chi LaRue’s Rascal Video and Channel 1 Releasing have DECEIVED on tap with Rascal Exclusive Claudio Martin photographed on the cover in full-bore James Dean mode; leather jacket, motorcycle, cigarette dangling from his lips, the works. Mr. Martin’s fellow exclusives Patrick Downs (yuppie-cute with a stunning butt), Jan Fischer, Johnny Hazzard, Brandon Lee and Eddie Stone join Cal Jackson, Jeremy Jordan, newcomer Jay Varilla and Clay Maverick. It’s not clear if the ever-hunky Mr. Maverick filmed this role before or after his apparent “retirement” last spring. He’s paired with Stone and Varilla in the final scene.

I should note that although Claudio Martin looks good on the front of the DVD, a back cover photograph of Johnny Hazzard is particularly stunning. He’s lounging on his stomach, languorously gazing up at the camera, one hand resting against his forehead. Damn, but he looks good enough to eat. Go to Channel1releasing.com for details.

The Athletic Model Guild (AMG) sent along FANTASY FACTORY VOLS. 1 and 2 for our delectation, parts of which have never been released on DVD. This series is from Campfire Video, which AMG has recently acquired. “The Fantasy Factory Video series (1990-94) presents an impressive and representative selection from [AMG founder] Bob Mizer’s collection of eight- and sixteen-millimeter works,” reads the press release, “most of which were filmed in the 1950s and ’60s.”

Among the collection of vintage hotties is Andy Warhol star Joe Dallesandro, who is pictured on the back of the first volume, perilously young and downy-cheeked, grinning and irresistibly humpy. Three additional volumes will be released throughout the year, all of them “carefully reauthored for DVD by Campfire Video.” Kudos to the whole team for preserving this piece of gay history. Athleticmodelguild.com has more information.
