Synopsis: Upstart studio Dark Alley has managed to spark some controversy for this dark, edgy fuck flick that purports to reveal what actually happened in Gitmo as innocent citizens (or were they…?) are captured and thrown into the infamous prison. Ballsy? You bet. Gay gossip site Queerty.com stoked the fires a bit lately when they ran a complaint from a reader who felt naming a porn flick “Gaytanamo” was disrespectful.
Dark Alley co-founder Owen Hawk replied and Queerty ran his response: “It is true that for some ‘Guantanamo’ has taken on a meaning of a place of absolute horror√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùit means abuse of power, decay of the constitution, human suffering etc.√¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùGAYTANAMO not trivialize peoples’ suffering, but uses images and representations in order to attempt a change in perception… Most importantly, our use of this title does not, as many have jumped to the conclusion, suggest ignorance, lack of humanity, or any other stereotype which people are fond of applying to the category of pornographer. In fact, it represents a very conscious and deliberate attempt to suggest the interplay of culture, politics, sexuality, and representation in a work that has found meaning in an area where erotic film has not previously found relevance.”
We ran a sneak preview feature in XXX Showcase mag of Mr. Hawk plowing rising newbie Dominik Rider and readers loved it, if that’s any indication of how it will be received. Experimental drug torture, fisting, bondage and electro-sex are among the highlights. You will want to catch the director’s cut version for which they bake madeleines and sing “Fr√ɬ®re Jacques.”
