Another Gay Movie was sort of intended as a queer American Pie. It was directed by Todd Stephens and penned by Mr. Stephens and Tim Kaltenecker. Distributed by TLA Releasing in July 2006, the film grossed a modest $654,000 in just about five months in theatres (plus another $90K overseas). Good enough for the sequel—and the cover of every single national and local gay mag next spring prior to its release.

The 2008 European Gay Porn Awards have been announced. Constant Readers will recall some controversy I stepped into last year following the announcement of the inaugural slate of EGPA nominees; many bareback studios and films were cited, and there was some fighting in this space about who, exactly, sponsored and financed the show, which bills itself as a kind of European “People’s Choice” of porn awards. If it sounds like I’m talking about the David Awards, I’m not; this is the other European gay porn show that launched last year. Like the Davids, they aren’t working very hard to promote (or include, for that matter) U.S. companies. Only two Stateside films won any 2007 EGPA trophies: U.S. Male‘s DADS ‘N LADS 2 for Best Bear Film, and DADS ‘N LADS 3 for Best Non-European Film. This year, a whopping 27 (!) guys are up for Best Actor and 31 (!!) movies are up for Best Film. Earlier this month, November 7, was the anniversary of the death of performer Johnny Rahm. His passing, a suicide, was a horrible shock. I knew him and had been slowly developing a friendship when he took his own life, three years ago now. I still think about him and wonder, some nights, if everything had been done to help him. Well, a fan of Johnny’s named Brad Walton expressed his feelings in a lovely way — by writing a long poem in the classical tradition. I was interviewed by Mr. Walton and it’s a treat to read details of our talk about Johnny Rahm woven into the text of the poem. He posted the text to a small blog last June and has been tinkering with it periodically. Johnny was nothing if not an artist and this, I think, is a great way to commemorate him. I’m sorry to pass on the news that Arizona’s X-Factor magazine will cease publication. I’d caught wind of this last month but formal announcement was kept under wraps until now. Longtime editor Ken Furtado has been a fan and supporter of The Adams Report by JC Adams since its inception in 1998; we met the year before when I brought him onboard as a judge for the now-defunct Gay Erotic Video Awards. “After an 18-year run, X-Factor is closing its doors. In October, General Manager Tim DePlanche announced that the publisher was terminating the magazine at the end of 2007,” reads this morning’s presss release. “DePlanche did not give a reason for the decision.” This follows the announcement, early this year, that Specialty Publications (Men, Freshmen, et. al.) was being put up for sale. Adult Industry Medical (AIM) founder, Dr. Sharon Mitchell, spoke to Adult Video News and expanded on AIM’s recent warning that an outbreak of syphilis is spreading through Eastern Europe, specifically the Czech Republic.
