[UPDATED 11/07/07 with more winners. Plus, the comments section is pretty lively...] I’ve managed to get my hands on a copy of Germany’s GAYeLINE Magazine that contains the full list of the 2007 David Award nominees. (A tip of the hat to my European Constant Readers.) These nominations were not circulated to the U.S. skin biz prior to the awards show, leading some peeved industryites to publicly speculate that producers wanted to "trick" (their word) condoms-only companies into attending. As we already knew, Titan Media earned four nods and Channel 1 Releasing snagged three. But Bel Ami, Hot House Video and Raging Stallion Studios (as well as Treasure Island Media) earned two nominations. Chaos Men, COLT Studio, Kristen Bjorn‘s Sarava Productions and Tipo Sesso each nabbed a single nod. Among European companies, XY Studios led with seven noms followed by Eurocreme with four. Read on for details…

You forgot to mention that XY Studios also produced and ran the awards show and they appear to have awarded themselves 4 of the top EU awards. Best EU Studio, Best EU Director, Best EU Film, Best Gay Website.

It may also comes as no surprise that XY Studios new USA wholesale distributors are New Barbary Coast Distribution, the distribution arm of Treasure Island Media and One Distribution of Tipo Sesso infamy! Both of which recieved questionable awards.

This year, XY Studios bought themselves awards for Best EU Studio, Best EU Director, Best Gay Website, Best EU Fetish film. The latter is particularly interesting as the movie, “Pissing”, has a EU release date of October 15, 2007. This has to set a record for an award that was announced on October 19! And the magazine where the nominations are published bears the date of October 18, 2007, the opening day of the Venus-Berlin Erotic Fair. All this is beyond shameless.

Keith Webb the more you come on here and complain about these awards the more you are just sounding like you have sour grapes.

“Both of which received QUESTIONABLE awards”? Why are they questionable? Because YOU didn’t win? I suppose we should QUESTION the lifetime achievement award also then huh?

    You protest too much.

No, Mr. Webb is trying to infer that the awards were “paid” for in advertising and sponsorship and distribution – So, let’s all wait and see at the 2008 GayVN awards in February if Titan has any advertising in the program or any sponsorship of THOSE awards and then we can all come back and QUESTION those winners as well.

  6. Keith Webb on November 6, 2007 4:50 pm

No, I was actually inferring that they were really shitty films and did not deserve to win, let alone be nominated! Eurocreme, Cazzo and BelAmi all make a hell of a lot better films than XY Studios, yet XY who was running the show won all the major awards. When something smells like shit it is usually shit!

You don’t see me complaining about any of the categories we were in and didn’t win, except for Best American Studio. The word “Studio” is defined as “workplace for the teaching or practice of an art”. Based on that definition Hot House should have won that category. Steven Scarborough actually makes high quality films, not $8,000 cumdumps shot in one day in a cheap hotel room.

    I’m just calling a spade a spade.

  7. Treasure Island Fan on November 7, 2007 6:46 am

Dude you are pretty funny in your own ignorance and what I am assuming is a dig at Treasure Island Media.

Treasure Island Media has come a long way since 1998 and the hotel cumdumps made in one day that you refer to. Maybe you should check out some of the new videos before you call “a spade a spade”. Just about everything they have released in the last 3 or 4 years has been nothing but art as porn in my opinion. Even in the last year they’ve been putting out nothing but 2 DVD set extravaganza’s shot over months and multi-location videos including their Fire Island series… and if you paid any attention – they just shot a video in London for ten days which was apparently shot in nothing but London underground sex clubs.

At least their videos have some sexual heat and excitement – I’d rather watch those than the snoozefests that Titan puts out and calls pornography. C’mon dude have you watched CARNY? What they hell was that crap?

You guys haven’t released a good video since you had Dred Scott in your stable and that was what – 4 years ago? TIM keeps getting better and better and Paul Morris seems to be expanding by bringing in young and hot new talented directors like Max Sohl and Machofucker and his own stable of super hot exclusive models who actually look like they enjoy having sex.

They ARE the best US studio these days and you’re just a hack crying in his soup.

Opinions are like assholes…everyone has one!

I love how people who are HIV+ love to complain about how irresponsible bareback videos are. Excuse me but how did you get that way? I myself am HIV+ – I own that. It’s a CHOICE – you know the risks and you shouldn’t whine about it afterwards.

Maybe it’s because they are trying to help others so that they do not make the same mistakes. Remember when the gay community used to take care of each other? Many people seem to have this bitter attitude, it’s like “It’s their choice and their fault, so let them get HIV.” It’s sad to watch this total lack of support to help our brothers stay HIV negative.
