Bjorn’s “El Rancho” Sweeps 2007 HeatGay Awards

Did you know the 2007 HeatGAY Awards were presented last month? They unspooled in conjunction with the 15th Annual Barcelona International Erotic Film Festival (that’s quite a mouthful, no pun intended). I get that the Euro porn awards aren’t primarily interested in reaching out to the North American porn scene, but how about a measly press release, people? Anyway, both straight and gay flicks were awarded and Kristen Bjorn’s EL RANCHO came out on top with four awards, while Bel Ami, Cazzo, Hot House and Titan Media placed one apiece. Last year, COLT Studio took five HeatGay Awards: Brian Hansen as Best Actor, Kristofer Weston as Best Director (he also won a general excellence award), and Mr. Hansen with Adam Dexter as Best Sex Scene for HARD STUDIES, plus Carlo Masi as Best Supporting Actor for MAN COUNTRY. Bel Ami won two (Best Film and Videography for PINA COLADA) and Raging Stallion Studios just one (Best 100% Sex Film for TOUGH AS NAILS).

So much for the bareback “controversy” you tried to get going. Seems like most of the world didn’t care, did they?
you’re right i guess most of the world doesn’t care…. that’s why people keep dying (slowly rotting to death?) from AIDS, because they keep bb…but at least it looks really HOT in the movies huh?
Spare me the homilies. Okay, yes, people care. But you can’t tell me that if porn stopped making BB movies that men would stop going BB in their personal lives. Porn reflects what’s going on in society, for the most part, not the other way around. If BB studios and actors are willing to accept the risk, that’s their decision. People still smoke, they still eat junk food. They know the risks and they decide it’s acceptable, whether you agree or not. Go ahead and protest and try to change people’s minds, but don’t tell me if we banned BB porn that AIDS rates would magically drop.
What we need to ask ourselves is why are HIV rates rising in both the USA and Western Europe amongst gaymen? Bareback films are indicative of an overall sense of apathy within the gay community. People seem to have given up and not care whether or not others contract HIV. Just like we advocate and apply social stigma to reduce smoking, drinking and drug use, we can also do the same thing for bareback. There will always be people that choose to do it no matter what, and that’s their right. But, we as a community can stand up and say what we will and will not accept as normalized within our community. We owe it to each other to try and keep new HIV infections as low as possible.
I was not offended by the barebacking in El Rancho because Daniel Marvin and Pedro Andreas are in a committed relationship and have decided bareback sex was fine for them.
However, bareback sex in most films is a turn-off for me, as I wonder if the actors really understand the risk they are accepting and consequences that can follow.
