To tease the imminent release of the 2008 Adam Gay Video Directory (which, natch, I edited), let’s take a look at the reviews of some of the year’s big releases, including a snippet from the AGVD review. First up: THE INTERN (Lucas Entertainment). “Sex and comedy don’t always mix, but THE INTERN finds the right balance. From the colorful opening sequence, which apes the music and graphics of TV hit Ugly Betty, to the witty dialogue that freely makes fun of superstar [Michael] Lucas and his alleged diva ways, the movie scores on all levels.” Read on for more reviews of THE INTERN…!

ManNet.com: “Often given to straight-faced serious plots, Lucas Entertainment turns downright slaphappy silly with THE INTERN, at once a spoof of ABC’s Ugly Betty and also of its producer and his empire. Tony Dimarco has written one of his best scripts yet, and has filmed it with ideal precision. Ben Andrews is the nominal star, though because of the plot, he doesn’t get to really ‘star’ until late in the movie, so in the meantime, the deck is stacked with ace performers who get caught up in the giddy light-hearted momentum to turn in sex scenes every bit as crackling as the situations.”

Arizona’s X Factor magazine: “Michael Lucas parodies himself in THE INTERN, the first sex comedy from Lucas Entertainment. Tony DiMarco, who directed, has also written a clever and funny script…has plenty of its own inventiveness and hilarity. Lucas plays an egomaniacal version of himself, the CEO of Trojan Studios, obsessed with Botox and collagen injections, his new life-sized dildo that’s due from the manufacturer at any moment, and the never-ending quest to find a model with a bigger dick than he’s ever filmed before. Newcomer Christian Cruz, who debuted in AUDITIONS VOL. 19, plays Michael’s personal assistant. Cruz steals every scene he appears in, both sexual and non-sexual, with a combination of intense charisma, sexual magnetism, acting chops and carnal overdrive. Add fashion sense to that list.”

I thought Michael Lucas was very OTT in this and I wondered how nearer he is to middle-age!
I suppose it should have been Ben Andrews film as a sort of reporter-turn-superman type character, but it seemed to fail. The outdoor shots were good. The rest of the cast were too prissy!
Should have been called ‘New Boy in Town’ rather than something from a new medical drama.

Sex comedies almost never work. But I thought this was okay. Everyone’s giving Michael Lucas credit for poking fun at himself, but it’s not like this is the first time he’s done that. It’s amusing, and I liked it overall, but I think we get the joke by now.

wow the comments are pretty negative here. I thought it was great. yes it’s funny etc etc but what mattered to me was the sex and it was good! How can you say Zach Randall is not hot??

That effeminate latin queen referred to is one of the hottest porn stars i know of. He’s good and a hot bottom if there ever was one. and jonathan vargas and jason ridge make this movie a must-have.

Trust a Michael Lucas story to bring out the haters. This movie wasn’t my style, but Christian Cruz is a terrific new performer. See his work with Ryen/Ryan Alexander in “Restless Youths.” He’s fantastic in an exciting scene and I’ve never really gone for Alexander before.
