The Contenders: YOUR Best-Of Picks!

It’s been fun (and instructive) polling our Constant Readers this past holiday week to find out which porn celebs and newbies caught your eye in 2007 and which should be watched more closely in 2008. (And if you think moguls and directors aren’t paying attention, they are: “I had no idea Zack Randall was so popular. We’re looking into casting him,” one director told me. And three different moguls expressed disappointment that Dean Flynn is a Titan exclusive after seeing him top our “Porn Stud to Watch” poll.) Wow, I’m first? I thought Kristen Bjorn’s “El Rancho” and “Rocks and Hard Places” were his best in years. I know people complain it’s the same-old, same-old. But I think his move to Barcelona did him some good. Jean Franko is amazing, amazing, amazing.
The debut feature from Ridgeline Films, A Rising Star, was amazing. Particularly the 45 minute scene between Jason Ridge (CEO of Ridgeline Films) and Falcon Exclusive, Roman Heart. Jason’s scene with Andrew Justice was also pretty hot.
I’ve already posted about this before (dif. posting name), but it bears repeating: Ink Storm (Raging Stallion-Screaming Eagle XXX) was fucking amazing. Everything about that movie totally works. And I’ve never beern that into tatted-up guys, really. It’s just great sex.
“GRUNTS” from Raging Stallion is fucking unbelievable. The sexual energy from the likes of Ricky Sinz, Jake Deckard, RJ Danvers, Luke Hass, Antonio Biaggi, Rafael Alencar and others is amazing.
The trouble with Kristen Bjorn’s films is that you know what to expect from every scene. Its the same set-up and layout. I was giving ‘Parashooters’ for Xmas and after 10 minutes gave up. It was boring!

Ridgeline Films, A Rising Star was hot! Jason Ridge and the entire cast rocked.
This is going to sound contradictory, but even though there was some very good sex in “Grunts” (I fucking LOVE Max Schutler) I kind of felt like…eh, been there, done that. It’s like Sinu’ says about Bjorn’s porn; it’s hot, but there are no surprises, no suspense. There was a lot to like about “Grunts” but I was a bit letdown. I don’t know if that’s fair, but there it is.
Joe Gage’s films this year, as always, were full of surprises, great sex, lots of mood and sexual tension and really hot men. Beautifully directed and written. The best stuff out there, for me. Particularly “Gunnery Sgt. McCool”. Would love to see Joe get some well-deserved recognition in the industry.
Bjorn: a constant re-hash of teams and shots. He still gets the most hunkie latinos though but el rancho only had one really hot scene and that was between the ‘couple’ in the film (names escape me lazybones that i am). But his scenes become repetitive, the sound is still so much fake and sensuality is missing.
Grunts was another deception : love Ragazzi and sweet Justin and the other twink but it was all like a symphony played at constant forte as if war was being fought out on the sex scene instead of on the battlefield. I do understand there must be a public (?) for this kind of ‘unemotional’ put-it-in-and-fuck-hard films but they lack something for this one as if soldiers never french kiss; I once had two experiences with two hot israeli soldiers and they kissed like gods, why should american soldiers be different?
An excellent film in my humble view was mansize’s Flatmate, a film which rarely turns up but that one was hot: divine guys, great sex scenes, great kissing, correct sound, wonderful use of underwear and i still wonder why that mexican newcomer in the title role never turned up again. He was AWESOME!
Haven’t seen Ridge’s first go at directing porn yet but it looks promising, the trailer i mean. Gigolo and inside prague were disappointments in general. gigolo was a bit too arty farty i mean i do ‘allow’ michael lucas’s Zeffirelli moment but porn is still about hot sex too and that was in all scenes missing except two. One is where Mr Lucas is granted the pleasure of having fun with the ever-professional mr Ridge and (too?) chubby Arpad is granted his moment of initiating a youngbie. The other guys are mainly mediocre and booooring. The music too is over-obtrusive and what I (we?) want is natural sound. The hearing sense is almost as important at the viewing sense and so many directors still neglect this aspect of porn and sex. The substitute we often get is bad soundtrack, 2nd rate opera (yep, kazan is a case in point)or badly faked ah’s and oh’s.
But I’m ranting and i often behave as a selfish-arrogant twit who wants porn to be his way:)
