Sam Dixon Retires, Puts 1 Distribution Up for Sale

Performer-turned-mogul Sam Dixon announced today that he is leaving the skin trade and putting his companies, including 1 Distribution, up for sale. “Although it is hard to say goodbye to a business I built from the ground up which has become such a success,” he says in a press release, “my business partner and I have agreed that the time has come for us to go our separate ways and explore other ventures on our own outside of the adult industry.” (Mr. Dixon’s business partner is the performer formerly known as Austin.) Specifically, it is Matthew John Holdings, Inc. being sold, which includes 1 Distribution and prominent bareback company Tipo Sesso, as well as Boiling Point Productions, Carnaval Films and Major Wood Productions, plus a few additional smaller lines. Mr. Dixon founded his Boiling Point Productions in 1998 and produced titles with an emphasis on cute young bucks like YOUNG MEN ON THE PLEASURE TRAIL (featuring Dean O’Connor, Emilio Sands and Sandy Sloan); he and Austin formed 1 Distribution in 2004. (Performer-director Dino Phillips works there, too.) “There will be no variance in the day to day operations of any of these companies while seeking a suitable buyer,” he says. “Customers can continue to be assured of the same high quality service they have come to expect.”
Austin’s career stretches back 8-10 years (remember 2000′s very fine DOWN AUSTIN LANE?), while Mr. Dixon’s videography dates back to 1996 when as an ex-police officer he moved from Boston to Southern California to remake his life. We spoke earlier this week about his decision to sell off the companies and leave XXX; like many, he feels he’s had a good run and wants to try something new. Now is as good a time as any; the adult business is changing rapidly and the current environment is not friendly to midsized (or smaller) adult companies, particularly distributors. Mr. Dixon transitioned from performer to director to studio chief and carved out a solid, 12-year career. Time to explore new horizons, but who knows, right? Stay tuned for details.

I’m confused. I thought the owner/VP was Sam Manning, not Sam Dixon?
