Tom Lazzari: From Eight-Man Gang-Bangs to Cabaret

If you’re in Hollywood between February 21 and March 1, check out the solo show iTom_Shuffle, written and performed by Tom Orr, better known to piggier gay porn fans as horsehung Tom Lazzari. He’s been writing and performing since 1997 with recent roles in musical theatre ranging from Naked Boys Singing to Li’l Abner to Simply Sondheim: A 75th Birthday Salute. I worked with Mr. Lazzari when he shot 2005’s TOUGH GUYS: GETTIN’ OFF for director Joe Gage and MSR Videos; he was brought to us by Michael Brandon, I think, and he didn’t exactly break into song between set-ups. He also shot CLOSED SET: TITAN STAGE ONE for Mr. Gage and Titan Media in 2006, which earned him a GAYVN nod. (You may have also caught wind of his advocacy against crystal meth addiction, which he kicked three years ago. Check out some of his work over at Tweaker.org.) Mr. Orr/Lazzari’s new show is billed as a “musical comedy cabaret for consenting adults only…made up of his best, raunchiest and bawdiest Broadway bawdlerizations, with provocative parody lyrics set to familiar melodies.” On his press release, he quotes none other than Mr. Sondheim, who praises Mr. Orr’s songwriting abilities: “There is substance behind the jokes, a quality rare in camp songwriting.” Well, he oughta know!
That’s him with the TOUGH GUYS cast, pictured far right. Titan Media now has it packaged with MSR’s ROUGH TRADE in the double-DVD MANPLAY 28.

I like hearing about gay porn stars who do other stuff, like Brad Benton or Bret Wolfe, or Jackson Phillips and Ray Dragon back in the day. The cliche is that they only do porn because they have no other options, but that’s obviously not true at all. I’m in SF so I’ll look for this if it comes up here.
Its very difficult to perform solo and hold an audience in the palm of your hand. I wish he would come to the UK and I could catch his show. Best of success!
