AMG Brasil: “A Duck, a Gorilla and a World Leader”

I had a chat this morning with Athletic Model Guild CEO Dennis Bell, who is still celebrating the GAYVN win by his AMG Brasil line√¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùBest Ethnic-Themed Video (Latin) for AMAZONIA: CAPTURE & RELEASE. He offered Gay Porn Times a sneak peek at a couple of upcoming flicks as well as a eyefull of several performers they’ll be pushing, including the extraordinarily well-hung Marcelo Mastro (pictured). Everyone and their sugar daddy has grabbed a digital camera and their passport to film in Brazil and around South America these days (abandoning Eastern Europe), but AMG Brasil has a bit of a head start. Their two upcoming flicks are SURUBA: AZUL (“suruba” being Portuguese for “orgy”) and CARNAVAL, which incorporates footage shot by Mr. Bell at the actual Carnaval in Rio. “People are always ducking off into corners and alleys to have sex,” he told me, “and so this movie is about what happens in those alleyways.” Click here for the scoop…

New Release Desk: “Blacks on Daddies Vol. 1″

We’re tickled by the title BLACKS ON DADDIES 1 from the eponymous new label Blacks on Daddies and Gold Access Inc, which until now has operated only online (click here for their official site). All Boys Distribution will handle order fulfillment and marketing for the line. Despite the “Boys” descriptive, All Boys CEO Rob Ragan explains they’re attempting to differentiate themselves by picking up labels and titles that cover a wide range of the sexual spectrum (a mantle that has traditionally been held by All Worlds Video). The new flick features, natch, young, megahung black guys giving the pork to white daddybears aged 50 and up. The first volume dropped last week on Valentine’s Day, with five more installments expected over the next six months.

Kocis Murder Trial: Kerekes Outburst in Court

[Minor edits 6:31pm, 02/22/08.] Joseph Kerekes and Harlow Cuadra, co-defendants in the January 2007 murder of Cobra Video‘s Bryan Kocis, were both in court Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing with Luzerne County (Pennsylvania) judge Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. As one newspaper recounts, “Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against the two men from Virginia Beach, Va., who are accused of slaying gay pornography producer Kocis and setting fire to his Dallas Township home to try to lure a talent to their fledgling business.” But attorneys did not receive a ruling on two key issues: first, prosecutors argue that Demetrius Fannick cannot represent Harlow Cuadra and faces a conflict of interest as he had previously met with Mr. Kerekes prior to coming on as Mr. Cuadra’s lead counsel in late January. Yesterday’s hearing was the first since Mr. Fannick had been hired, but “that hiring came after Fannick had been talking with Kerekes [who] appeared to take issue with the switch Wednesday,” according to a newspaper account. “As soon as Fannick walked into court, Kerekes asked Fannick to speak with him. But Fannick couldn’t. Kerekes yelled that he didn’t want Fannick involved in the case if he was going to use anything they had spoken about. ‘Harlow won’t roll on me,’ Kerekes said.” Click here for more details…

A few weeks ago we wrote about COLT Studio‘s new COUPLES III fuck flick featuring, among other scenes, COLT Men Tom Chase and Brad Patton (in his last scene before retirement) flip-flopping (click here for the story). The movie also boasts an unreleased (!) duo with blue movie legend Lance and Tom Littlewolf. To promote the film the studio is hawking COLT Fuel and COLT Slick; the latter is their branded lubricant, while the former falls under their “aromas and leather cleaner” category—available in 10ml or 30ml sizes. “Remember the good ol’ days and crazy-filled nights of lube, poppers and amazing all-male movies?” reads the press squib. “Now with a bottle of our all-new COLT Fuel aromas you will swear it’s the 70s all over again. Ryan Idol Tied to Birmingham Charity Scandal

Erotica legend Ryan Idol has been tangentially tied to a growing scandal involving a charity formed by Birmingham, Alabama mayor Larry Langford. Federal prosecutors are scrutinizing the disbursement of $1 million in taxpayer funds by the charity Computer Help for Kids, formed in 2000, including “personal credit card bills, expenses for ‘elaborate’ trips and checks written to a star of gay-porn films,” identified in a newspaper report as Mr. Idol. He was paid to repair computers and help set up computer programs, and has not been implicated in or accused of any wrongdoing. “Big Brother 9″ Crazy James’ Hardcore Porn Debut

Lost Classic: “Mardi Gras Cowboy”

Exciting news that Channel 1 Releasing will be re-releasing the lost 1996 classic MARDI GRAS COWBOY (All Worlds Video) on DVD next month. Long out of print, this quirky, quixotic flick was directed by Rico de la Playa and featured the wondrous Jim Buck and Vidkid Timo, both of whom blazed brightly for just a couple of years in gay adult, won a bunch of awards, then left for greener pastures. Michael Lucas Challenges GAYVN Wins

Following the announcement of the 10th Annual GAYVN Awards this past weekend, Lucas Entertainment CEO Michael Lucas is questioning how some of the trophy winners were decided. In an open letter circulated to the industry and posted at LucasBlog.com, Mr. Lucas says that although he is happy with his four wins, he is displeased that all of them were for THE INTERN. “I agree [it] is a great comedy, but it could not be compared or put anywhere close to the same level of GIGOLO.” Further, he termed some wins “absolutely ridiculous,” such as snagging Best-Renting Title of 2007 for THE INTERN. “I am my own distributor, and I know we sold twice as many of GIGOLO…(m)y accounting is available for that.” Click here for more scoop…

GAYVN Weekend: Quotes, Insults & Scandals

[Edits 10:15pm.] The GAYVN Awards wrap-ups are starting to roll in, starting with Fleshbot and Gay Porn Blog and The Sword. Here are a few bits and bobs culled from my notebook: Dark Alley‘s VON FISTENBERG’S 8 1/2 wasn’t the only film to have its nominations withdrawn after the fact (scroll down or click here for our story and the comments-section debate)√¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùTHE MEN I WANTED (Lucas Kazan Productions) had its Best Music citation stripped when it came to light that director Lucas Kazan relied primarily on the work of the Italian opera composer Donizetti for his film’s score, which he told me was never a secret in the first place. And EL RANCHO from Kristen Bjorn‘s Sarava Productions had both of its nominations disqualified (Best Boxcover Concept and Best Oral Scene shared between Rocky Oliveira, Peter Pauer and Ricardo Safado) because the mail-order version of the film contains a condomless sex cene. One studio heavyweight told me that although he was satisfied for the most part with the show, these after-the-fact disqualifications represent “a major embarrassment. Lady Bunny served as host with Derek Hartley and Romaine Patterson of the “The Derek & Romaine Show” on Sirius OutQ satellite radio. Hundreds of gay adult’s best and brightest were in attendance to watch as Raging Stallion Studios claimed a leading ten trophies, nine of them for the epic GRUNTS: THE NEW RECRUITS. Raging Stallion’s “Grunts” Grabs Nine GAYVN Trophies

The 10th Annual GAYVN Awards were owned by Raging Stallion Studios tonight. The company earned their first-ever Best Picture win√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùone of ten trophies to lead all studios√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùfor GRUNTS: THE NEW RECRUITS, which took nine of those citations (the tenth went to EDINBURGH, shared with Collin O’Neal Productions). Jake Deckard, Raging Stallion’s Man of the Year, won Best Actor (for GRUNTS) and the coveted Performer of the Year. His costar in that film, Ricky Sinz, leads all performers with three trophies for Best Sex Scene (shared with Roman Ragazzi), Best Solo Performance and Best Supporting Actor, all of them (natch) for GRUNTS. Blake Riley snagged Best Newcomer and LINK: THE EVOLUTION for All Worlds Video came in second tonight with five trophies, while Lucas Entertainment‘s THE INTERN won four.

Awards! More awards! Gimme more! Maleflix.tv presented their 2nd Annual Gold VOD winners last night at the W Hotel here in San Francisco. The trophies “recognize excellence in adult videos, as judged by sales and viewership during 2007.” Channel 1 Releasing and Hot House Video each walked away with two trophies; the former for 2ND INNING: LITTLE BIG LEAGUE 2 and WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACKS from their Electro Video and Rascal Video labels, respectively; the latter for BUTCH ALLEY and PRIVATE LOWLIFE. Stanford Students Protest Michael Lucas Lecture

We wrote last week about Lucas Entertainment star-CEO Michael Lucas being invited to speak at Stanford University today. The stated topic was to be safer sex in pornography. But today’s The Stanford Daily has an article (“Adult film star’s remarks spark debate“) noting that “some students have raised concerns over controversial remarks attributed to Lucas about the Arab and Muslim communities. As a result of the comments, members of the group Queer & Asian (Q&A) voted through email not to co-sponsor the event.” The article notes that Mr. Lucas “has spoken out against the Muslim faith for its condemnation of homosexuality… In a New York Blade op-ed, he wrote, ‘the Koran is today’s Mein Kampf,’ alleging that the Koran inspires followers to kill homosexuals.” Patrick Cordova, a member of the speaker’s bureau that invited Mr. Lucas, told the paper that “he does not condone” Mr. Lucas’ opinions, but otherwise believes “the comments are rooted in real criticism of homophobia and hatred around the world.” Fatima Hassan, president of the Muslim Student Awareness Network (MSAN), disagrees. “If he had made those statements about black people or Jewish people or Native American people, would they still be tolerated?” Click here for Michael Lucas’ response…
