New Release Desk: Bjorn’s “Skin Deep”

Here’s a so-so peek at the DVD insert for Kristen Bjorn’s upcoming SKIN DEEP 1-2 (“Beauty is only skin deep…but vengeance goes to the bone!”) that utilizes the Daniel Marvin-Franco Dominicci-Rocky Oliveira promotional still we showed earlier this month (click here for that entry). The movie has a whopping 23-member cast and both halves, timed together, run five hours and forty minutes… The recent trend toward re-ee-eally long porn flicks continues apace; and this one isn’t even billed as a “Director’s Expanded Edit” or somesuch. Crime Blotter: Taleon Goffney, Mom, to Stand Trial

Crime Blotter Update: Taleon Goffney, 25, and his mother Towana Goffney, 42, have been ordered to stand trial on burglary charges in Philadelphia. Per a newspaper report, “Two South Philadelphia merchants testified [Tuesday, April 22] that more than $1500 and other valuables were taken from their adjacent shops in a burlgary,” for which Mr. Goffney, his twin Keyontyli Goffney, and their mother stand accused. The twins also worked in the gay adult industry as Keyon and Teyon for various companies, including BlackMen.net and FlavaWorks. They are suspects in a total of 45 burglaries spread through Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Their crime spree resulted in the formation of an interstate task force that resulted in the twins’ February 19 arrest. All three are currently free on bail. Porn titles are truly a hidden art form. SPREAD DAT BUTTA is the latest “thugporn” entry from Pitbull Productions and helmer Jalin Fuentes. Love-that-title. Love it. Tony DiMarco Leaves Lucas for RSS

Raging Stallion Studios President Chris Ward announced in a press release today that award-winning filmmaker Tony DiMarco has joined the company, effective immediately. Mr. DiMarco had previously been associated with Lucas Entertainment and was one of the creative forces behind the GAYVN-winning films DANGEROUS LIAISONS and MICHAEL LUCAS’ LA DOLCE VITA. For the latter film, Mr. DiMarco became the only person to snag four trophies√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùwriting, editing, videography and directing√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùin a single night, for a single film. “I [am] very excited to join Raging Stallion Studios. I’ve been a great admirer of their work for many years and am very excited about the prospect of working as one,” Mr. DiMarco says. “They are at the top of their game and I’m at the top of mine; I think this is the beginning of an exceptional team. The quality of their filmmaking is top notch and I’m honored to be a part of the team.” In the same press release, Mr. Ward notes that RSS co-partner Michael Brandon has “retired” and that Tony DiMarco will be filling his position within the company. Among his initial projects is a “GRUNTS-scale cowboy movie” to shoot in New Mexico in a few months. “All I can say is everybody better watch out! [Edits 04/23/08.] Lucas Entertainment, Raging Stallion Studios and Titan Media are the top winners, while Jesse Santana snags more kudos, at the 14th Annual Hard Choice Awards, presented by XXFactor.com (formerly Arizona’s X-Factor magazine) and longtime reviewer/editor “Onan the Vulgarian.” He is the only person in gay porn who would start off his awards announcement with a Ferlinghetti quote (click over to the site to read it). About the year in porn, “In a time when pundits warn of the demise of DVDs, producer-director Chris Ward and co-director Ben Leon had the cojones to mastermind a 6-disc, 20-hour sexual marathon called GRUNTS, and to sell it for over $100. In Print: “Hommes Int’l” Goes Erotic

If it’s spring, it’s time for the magazine biz to roll out their “SEX!!!” issues. Let’s start with Vogue‘s Hommes International, whose “Erotic” issue has a sizzling B&W shot of Tony Ward on the cover (click here for our recent story on him) and features an article called “Ex-Porn Stars” by Philippe Azoury (one of our European-minded Constant Readers sent along scans of the article). The subhead reads, “Idolised by sex-hobbyists, despised by Puritans, hardcore has its galaxy of stars whose careers wax and wane. A close-up of some recent standout sex stars.” There are two “recent” gay stars listed: Peter Berlin and Jeff Stryker! I’m not arguing with their legendary status, but would perhaps quibble with the French definition of “recent”… The rest of the list are straight porn icons: Linda Lovelace, Traci Lords, Savannah, Rocco Siffredi, et. al. Planet Porn: Chi Chi & Joey Morgan in Florida

Look who showed up to catch DJ Chi Chi LaRue spinning at The Metro nightclub in Jacksonville last week: Joey Morgan, still lookin’ damn good. He was active between 1992 and 1994, mainly for Catalina Video. He was also the subject of a persistent death rumor towards the end of the previous decade and I remember when he tracked me down to prove that he was still alive and kicking, having successfully battled Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Everyone assumed he had kicked the bucket, so thank the goddess for Google searches. Beautiful “Breakers” in Blu(-ray)

We’ve got another gay-porn-on-Blu-ray article, this one penned by my colleague John Karr of San Francisco’s Bay Area Reporter (“Karrnal Knowledge: Blue Movies Blossom in Blu-ray“). Mr. Karr is a longtime habitue of the smut scene and knows his stuff. As noted in a previous story, only Raging Stallion Studios (the GRUNTS three-parter) and Titan Media have released films on Blu-Ray. Mr. Karr wittily examines the effect of this newish technology on Titan’s BREAKERS (not to neglect GRUNTS, but Mr. Karr doesn’t cover it in his summation). “(L)et me tell you, it’s gorgeous,” he sez. “The effects of Blu-ray really can’t be compared to the differences between older technologies, like film to VHS, or VHS to DVD. Tom of Finland‘s erotic artwork is undergoing something of a mini-renaissance itself. DVD Wars: Blu-Ray vs. PPV vs. VOD

[Edits 2:01pm.] EdgeBoston.com has an article online (it went live 04/20) titled “Technology Changes Gay Pornography” (click here). Among the gay biz industryites quoted are Titan Media VP Keith Webb and GAYVN editor Harker Jones. “People are trying to say the DVD is dead or dying; but the penetration of DVD player ownership is huge, and the market isn√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t going away for awhile,” says Mr. Webb. “Emerging technology is about high def and Blu-ray.” Titan released BREAKERS on Blu-Ray (the only other studio to do so is Raging Stallion with GRUNTS) and contends sales have been strong, particularly among “rich gay men who are tech savvy and early adapters of new technology. Lots of Upper East Side [New York] addresses have been shipped.” Mr. Jones voices a similar opinion, that folks are going to always want the tactile sensation of a physical DVD in hand. I agree that’s true for a certain segment of the gay porn market. But what about the younger generation for whom buying or renting a DVD has never really been an option? This Netflix generation doesn’t have the same sentimental attachment to physically holding onto a DVD (or a book, or a newspaper, or a CD, for that matter). Click here for the rest of the story…

Fresh Meat: Lucas Kazan’s Bruno

This is new Lucas Kazan discovery Bruno (that’s it, no surname necessary). I teased his introduction last month (click here). Mr. Kazan sez the tall, lean and smoothly muscled 25-year-old “showed up at one of the open casting calls we held in Rome back in December and impressed my crew: with zero inhibitions and zero visual aids√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùno magazines, no videos√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùhe managed to keep hard on command.
