Press Release Roundup: Lucas Kazan Productions continues their ten-year anniversary celebration with a new Bruno Gmünder photobook, Lucas Kazan: Italian Style. It streets in late June (click here). Fan-favorite hunks Julian Vincenzo (sigh…) and Jean Franko (double sigh…) share the cover in a luscious snap from Mr. Kazan’s 2007 blue movie THE SCHOOL FOR LOVERS. The 96-pager celebrates “high class Mediterranean masculinity,” per the press release. “We never set out to build a factory and to crank out videos. Instead, we aimed for higher production values, exclusive models and exotic locations,” Mr. Kazan says. “We believed back then, and believe today, that porn could be erotic and visually spectacular and professionally lensed. It is more than mere acrobatics, it’s about emotions and our collective psyche.” I had lunch with Mr. Kazan earlier this week before he jetted back to Southern Italy to shoot ITALIAN AND OTHER STRANGERS, his tenth-anniversary blue movie. We spent most of our lunch reminiscing about the late Jean-Daniel Cadinot, whose work, as Mr. Kazan’s press statement indicates, was a formative influence.

“Instead we aimed for higher procuction values, exclusive models and exotic locations”

Two out of three ain’t bad, I guess. Franko is indeed a Kazan discovery, probably his best. Vincenzo has over forty non-Kazan titles currently available; most were lensed before his associaton with LK. Aside from Franko, “The Man I Loved,” his latest release, features a cast entirely made up of very prolific freelancers, mostly from Eastern Europe (do they qualify as “Mediterranean” masculinity”?)

He is still a superior director, but the kind of “exclusive” casting he talks about has not been evident for quite a while.

Do you get, with the 10th year anniversary photobook, a prize if you spot the deliberate mistake that Lucas Kazan has a factory that turns out identical men on a conveyor belt? [Don’t rush for the prize its Ken, ex-boyfriend of Barbie]!
