The MenofColor blog is longtime friend of this site and they actually link to us frequently—I know, right?—so I’m more than happy to draw your attention to a recent two-part interview with directrix Chi Chi LaRue. Part One (click here) covers her early years as a dykelet and newbie in the porn biz, as well as the differences between directing straight and gay porn. She also pooh-poohs any assertion that she is an “accomplished DJ,” referring to herself instead as a “drag queen jukebox.” That’s a clever turn of phrase, but I’ve suffered through a lo-oo-ot of bad DJ’ing, and lemme tell ya, kids, DJ Chi Chi has a knack for pumping up a room. Part Two (click here) of the interview discusses safer sex, and whether racism plays a role in how gay adult films are cast, produced and marketed. [Image © C1R.com.]

Interesting articles by the Diva - autobiography any moment?

I wish someone would put a muzzle on Chi Chi Larue. Saying that men in bareback porn aren’t attractive is a crappy thing to say. I’ve seen some hot guys in a few bareback movies. Just because you don’t agree with what they’re doing doesn’t mean they’re not hot. Another thing that bothered me about that interview was the fact that she said she wouldn’t bad mouth bareback studios. But she makes a shitty remark about Treasure Island Media’s production value in an earlier sentence. Chi Chi Larue is a hypocrite and I wish she’d get off her damn high horse.

rabbit - You may not agree with her — strike that, you loathe her stance on the issue — but how is she a hypocrite? Because of that one sentence you cited? That’s a harsh and unfair conclusion from such a detail. Can you point to any other examples of her alleged hypocrisy?

    Apparently not.

Damn, someone is certainly keeping tabs on all my comments. And just because I have a life that doesn’t involve making hourly trips to a gay porn blog doesn’t mean I don’t have anything else to say. Anyway, I don’t “loathe” her stance on the bareback issue. I just don’t like the “I’m right, you’re wrong” attitude I’ve seen her display so many times. To answer your question, Chi Chi Larue is a hypocrite because she goes on and on about safe sex and how she would never put her models in danger. Well, what about sucking and rimming? The risk of getting HIV doing those sexual acts may be low. But you still have to worry about gonorrhea, herpes, hepatitis, intestinal parasites, Chlamydia, etc. If Chi Chi is going to preach about safe sex, then more precautions should be taken on porn sets and the models should start wearing condoms for rimming and oral scenes.

I’m going to point out another area of hypocrisy. This isn’t just about Chi Chi Larue. It’s porn in general. Pornography is one of the many things in this world that damages a person’s self esteem. I hear so many people bitching about the dangers of bareback porn. But what about the dangers of portraying beauty unrealistically? Porn films pretty much tell us that you’re nothing unless you have a pretty face, washboard abs, and a 10 inch dick. I’d say that’s incredibly dangerous, considering that so many people in this world have harmed themselves physically or have even died, all in the name of beauty. But, I don’t think it would be fair to blame porn for the actions of an insecure person. Just like I don’t think bareback porn should be blamed if someone chooses to do something they see in a movie. Porn is nothing more than a false reality that caters to our sexual fantasies. And anyone who considers it more than just that either needs help or is in need of some serious educating on how the real world works.

This subject can be debated until the cows come home, but it won’t really change anything. Bareback movies will still make a profit. And if Chi Chi has a problem with it, then she should save up and buy them out. Let her continue bashing Paul Morris in her interviews. Because that only gives him publicity and helps him sell his films.

rabbit - Hi! I too have been otherwise engaged and just saw this. Haven’t even read it yet, but just want to explain that you responded immediately to a similar query in another post, so I mistook your silence here. I apologize, and will now read your post. BTW, I am generally staying away from these threads, JCA and you probably know why.

  7. Will on May 25, 2008 6:56 am

WELL. Just finished and am literally typing without thinking, but I think hypocrite is too strong a word if the only reason you use it is because she doesn’t use condoms for oral and rimming. You KNOW she would go out of business if she did. But I admire your reasoned response, and ONWARD!

  8. Will on May 25, 2008 8:19 am

rabbit - Just a couple of thoughts after digesting your post a bit: You don’t believe that Chi Chi is actually doing more harm than the bareback producers as far as messages sent and model safety, do you? You sound like too reasonable a person to believe that. So why the anger and name-calling? As JCA says, that is a waste of time.

Also, I am assuming from what I pick up that you’re a fan of bareback studios. Couldn’t she accuse you of being a hypocrite for using condoms in your private life? Which I am assuming you do?

  9. Will on May 25, 2008 3:10 pm

Just one more thing: By your logic, the entire porn industry is hypocritical for only using condoms during fucking. So why the hell are you picking on her?

  10. Brandon on May 25, 2008 3:33 pm

People like Chi Chi aren’t just hypocritical, but cowardly because they would never engage you in a reasoned conservation. They know their opposition to bareback isn’t based on logic, but pure hysteria.

Ooops. Am I allowed to post? I wouldn’t want my comments deleted because of some idiotic allegation by someone - perhaps that rabbit and I are the same person.

  11. Will on May 25, 2008 3:36 pm

No, because rabbit is a well-known poster. You are not.

  12. Brandon on May 25, 2008 3:51 pm

I just love this idea that one is “well-known” on the internet by a username, or if you keep track of posts you made.

But yeah, back to the TOPIC. People like Chi Chi are hypocritical and cowardly.

  13. Will on May 25, 2008 4:03 pm

Brandon - I would love to continue our conversation here, if permitted, but won’t until you point to at least one post prior to Paris thread. That’s too much to ask?

  14. Brandon on May 25, 2008 4:30 pm

To satisfy my curiosity, I would love to see the reaction of Chi Chi and people like him to a line of condom-based movies that featured all HIV positive models, in which their status is acknowledged and that made some reference to the importance of condom use.

I actually have other examples of Chi Chi Larue’s hypocrisy. How about creating a safe sex PSA which portrays a man who foolishly uses a condom in water? Or her remark about bareback porn being filmed by people on crystal meth? She is in no position to throw stones, considering the fact that there’s quite a bit of drug usage that goes on at her company. I am not pulling this out of thin air. A recently retired porn actor who did a few Live & Raw shows has released a couple of pages from his upcoming autobiography talking about it and a lot of other shit that goes on at Channel 1 Releasing. So, to answer your question, no I don’t think hypocrite was too strong of a word. Honestly, I don’t think it was strong enough.

In response to your second post, no I don’t think Chi Chi is doing more harm than bareback studios. But I do think she is part of the problem since she doesn’t practice what she preaches on the subject. Also, I don’t consider myself a “bareback fan” since I have both bareback and condom films in my collection. I am not the type who pays attention to whether or not someone is wearing a rubber in a movie. I’m more focused on whether or not the scene is hot. Isn’t that the purpose of porn? And FYI, I do not use condoms since I’m not having sex, which should prove that bareback porn viewers aren’t motivated to go out and have unprotected sex. Regardless of what I do in my private life, I fail to see how that makes me a hypocrite. I don’t recall ever talking out of both sides of my mouth. So you lost me there.

Regarding your last post, how am I picking on anybody? This entry was about Chi Chi Larue. So it’s only natural that I’d focus my attention on her. If this was an interview about Keith Webb or Chris Ward spewing the same kind of BS, I would’ve gone after them instead. If I wanted to pick on her, I could have said worse things. But I feel that I’ve handled this with maturity.

To conclude this, I want to say that regardless of how people feel about this issue, I think it’s best to just agree to disagree. Because from what I’ve seen, the constant arguing and debating has gotten us nowhere. It’s a waste of time since we could be putting that energy towards something useful. Bareback porn is not the enemy here. The real enemy is ignorance. A lot of people are ignorant enough to emulate what they see in a movie. That’s the real problem. Not bareback porn. And the sooner people start realizing that and doing something about it, the sooner we might be able to help decrease the numbers of HIV infection within the gay community. Like I said, this debating back and forth is a waste of time. So I will no longer be commenting on the bareback issue.
