Jack Wrangler Doc Premieres in June

It’s shaping up to be quite a summer for fans of classic erotica. We’ve got a new John Holmes biography hitting bookstores in August (click here). And from bon vivant Michael Musto‘s “La Daily Musto” blog comes news about erotica legend Jack Wrangler. The documentary Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon (Automat Pictures) will premiere June 7 at New York’s gay film festival Newfest, which unspools June 5 – 15. Directed by Jeffrey Schwarz, Wrangler “explores the life of the most celebrated and successful gay porn star of the 1970s, who carefully cultivated his image, turning himself into a brand name, and influenced a generation of gay men with his masculine and rugged good looks,” per the fest blurb. Constant Readers of a certain age will recall Mr. Wrangler’s later infamy when he moved into straight porn and married chanteuse Margaret Whiting. Mr. Musto appears as a talking head alongside everyone from Christine Ebersole to Sharon Mitchell, Chi Chi LaRue to Bruce Vilanch, Gino Colbert, Joe Gage and many others.

I can’t wait to see this!!! They even interviewed the reclusive Samantha Fox, apparently, who was Jack Wrangler’s most frequent co-star in his straight films (along with Leslie Bovee, who has disappeared).
I have a hard time believing a guy who could suck cock as good as Jack Wrangler is a closet hetero. His straight performances seemed like more of an act, but in his gay movies he comes across as a genuine horndog.

I think he already has an autobiography. It was called “What’s a Nice Boy Like You Doing?” Imagine him plugging this book on the Merv Griffin Show.
