Press Release Roundup: Just recently Dylan Vox and I were chuckling over photos of some of his get-ups for a new acting gig, one that I haven’t been able to talk about it until now. Homewrecker is a forthcoming indie film from VanderHart Productions, written and produced by Bruce Hart and Paul VanderRoest and adapted from their stage play Naked Deception. The play was produced here in Los Angeles in 2006 and featured Mr. Vox (a/k/a Brad Benton to our Constant Readers) in the title role, which he is recreating for the film. He plays a sexalicious hunk who wreaks havoc in the lives of three gay couples. Sounds like the set-up for a porno, doesn’t it? But Homewrecker, billed as a parody of femme-centric, Perils of Pauline flicks on the Lifetime Channel, is definitely a comedy. Click here for more details…

The L.A. Weekly praised Mr. Vox’s Naked Deception stagework, citing “a touch of sassy subversiveness and the mandatory buffed physique.” Plays411.com spotlighted him as the “standout performance… Vox has audience appeal, plus great facial [expressions and] comedic timing√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùwhich all make his evil character very likable and funny.”

This reps a significant career advancement for Mr. Vox, who has assiduously worked to break into mainstream acting and until now has only landed small-ish supporting roles, such as in here! TV‘s Dante’s Cove and The Lair.

Plus, for whatever reason, the AfterElton.com blog has picked up on this story. Gay porn generally does not exist in the Viacom/Logo/AfterElton universe, so congrats to Mr. Vox for the breakthrough. [Photo © COLT Studio.]

I would hardly say that covering an independent film starring a (former?) gay porn star constitutes a breakthrough for gay porn on AfterElton! Would you say that reviewing a John Waters film with Traci Lords would mean they’re covering straight porn?

When they review his very skilled performance in “Leather Daddies Gang Banging Brad Benton,” then I’d say the walls have been breached.

Will — You misread what I wrote. Normally, Vox’s association with gay porn would mean whatever he accomplished would not be covered at all because the porn industry generally does not exist in the Viacom/Logo/AE media circle. So for them to cover something a former adult film star has done is worth noting.

First time commenter/poster here and I had to chime in here because I’ve seen Dylan Vox/Brad Benton on stage in LA twice now. Totally didn’t expect to read about him here! And he’s honestly good, maybe even great. The guy just has natural charisma. See if you can find his clip from “Fight for Fame” where he was clearly the best actor, but didn’t get picked because he spouted off about not believing in studying or whatever. Dumb, but he wouldn’t have been picked anyway because of his porn past. GOOD FOR HIM for sticking to it, though, and see him on stage if you can.
