In Print: Blue Blake’s “Out of the Blue”

Galleys arrived this afternoon of performer-director-living legend Blue Blake’s memoir, Out of the Blue: Confessions of an Unlikely Porn Star (Running Press). I can’t wait to dive into it. Earlier this summer, Running Press released another porn-star memoir—My Life in Porn by Bobby Blake (no relation). I just finished it and a review is forthcoming. “Would I recommend a life in porn to anybody? Nope,” Blue Blake avers in the press release. “Would I recommend it to a not-bad-looking guy from Nottingham who was born in a house without a toilet? RIP: Performer Cole Ryder

[Updated: 10:55am.] Gay Porn Times confirmed this morning that performer Cole Ryder has died. A cause of death has not been officially determined. Mature and muscular, Mr. Ryder, 36, appeared on the scene, virtually a fully formed star, as a Rascal Video exclusive in 2006 with LEATHER SESSIONS, for which he was given the cover, and went on to film BLACK MEAT, WHITE HEAT; DEPRAVED; LINK: THE EVOLUTION; SIZED UP and WHEN BEARS ATTACK for Channel 1 Releasing, as well as DADDY’S BOYS and RUSH for Unzipped Video. Upon leaving Rascal, he shot, most recently, CRUISIN’ GROUNDS for Mustang Studios. “He loved, loved, loved being in this industry,” Rascal’s Chi Chi LaRue told me this morning. “He was a happy-go-lucky guy who loved talking to fans and being recognized and the idea of guys getting off to him. He loved being on the cover of magazines. He just really enjoyed being a star; he was made for it. When he would dance and do personal appearances, he would always tell me his favorite part was mingling with the fans and having them put their hands all over him afterwards. He thought that was just the best thing ever. I’ll really miss him.” Fleshbot notes Mr. Ryder’s Myspace top-message (CLICK HERE, and turn down your speakers) has been altered to read, “Cole Ryder has left the building. Suite 703 Snags Hot Pup Tommy Defendi

Lambda Awards Honor Scott O’Hara

The Lambda Literary Awards recently celebrated their 20th anniversary (CLICK HERE). To commemorate the occasion they assembled and then played during their May 29 ceremony a short tribute film (running 8:32) memorializing the LGBT authors who have passed during the organization’s two-decade existence. That film was recently uploaded to YouTube and it’s a moving tribute, particularly for the literary minded (CLICK HERE). But what a pleasant surprise to find the late, great Scott O’Hara (1961-1998) was included and identified as an “author, editor, publisher, porn star.” Mr. O’Hara was an iconoclast, often controversial, and one of the most blazingly original talents to work within this impossible industry. As an amateur historian, keeping alive the memories of those who paved the path we now tread can be a depressingly daunting task. And it is dispiriting that someone like Scott O’Hara can be forgotten, an artist whose jagged-edge intelligence and punkish creative spirit demolished the restrictive boundaries of gay adult. Aussies Halt Steroid Smuggling Ring

Customs agents in Australia have recently halted a liquid steroids smuggling ring in which testosterone and other performance enhancing drugs were being concealed inside bottles from Thailand marked “gay lube oil.” Over 150 bottles have been seized in Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia since January (hey, what’s wrong with the Northern Territory?). A customs agent noted the smugglers perhaps felt agents would not examine the bottles “because…it’s a bit yucky or whatever.” They clearly underestimated the intrepid Aussie customs agents. Porn companies selling “leather cleaner” or imported lube might do well to double-check their bottles aren’t manufactured in Thailand. RSS Announces Bulging “Last Man” Cast

Press Release Roundup: Raging Stallion Studios is already flacking TO THE LAST MAN and they haven’t shot a frame yet. Yesterday they announced with some fanfare the full cast of their forthcoming oater that boasts a budget “exceeding $200,000.” Sez RSS CEO Chris Ward, “We really enjoy shooting blockbuster films. All of us are looking forward to doing a real, honest-to-goodness Western. It’s a sexy genre and it really goes with our company name.” The story comes from a Zane Grey novel, and they’ve rented ranches in California and New Mexico, as well as horses, cattle and wild elk. What, no snake wranglers? They’ve also brought in a Steadicam, dolly track and a camera crane, as well as new sound recording equipment. TO THE LAST MAN is “inspired by the films of Quentin Tarantino” and tells an erotic tale of rival gangs whose fight over water rights ends in “a dramatic shoot-out that leaves blood and guts spilled across the screen.” Mr. Ward notes a “non-violent, all-sex edit” will be made available for those customers whose fast-forward buttons on their remote controls are broken. The bulging cast includes Ricky Sinz and Scott Tanner as respective heads of the rival gangs of cowpokes, plus Raging Stallion exclusives Antonio Biaggi, Damien Crosse, RJ Danvers, Jake Deckard, Tristan Jaxx, Bo Matthews, Logan McRee and Damian Rios with Scott Freemont, Antton Harri, Rick Powers, Jimmy Trips and Jackson Wild. Mr. Ward is co-directing together with Tony DiMarco and Ben Leon.

Pantheon Wrangling Horny Bears

William Higgins, Vlogging & “Mad Monks”

Back in early June director William Higgins sent along a short note (CLICK HERE) about his revamped blog and other online activities. But did you know he’s begun vlogging (”video blogging”)? This is a screen cap from today’s entry (July 29, CLICK HERE) wherein the erotica legend talks about troubles with blown fuses at his Prague compound, and shooting a sexalicious, raven-haired newbie named Milos Zambo, whose taut bum is worked over, in a newly posted scene, by a man dressed in monk’s robes. Dropping August 19 from Chi Chi LaRue and her Rascal Video label is UNKNOWN starring Vinnie D’Angelo, Blake Riley and Trystian Sweet with Tommy Blade, Chad Hunt, Coby Mitchell, Dominik Rider and Jackson Wild. Following one week later (August 26) is SHARP from helmer Doug Jeffries on the All Worlds Platinum Collection label. It stars Mr. Blade (”Killer Good Looks!”) and Nash Lawler with Wolf Hudson, Jason Longh, Nick Marino and Josh West, plus Messrs. Riley, Sweet and Wild. Press Release Roundup: Late last week, Raging Stallion Studios announced they’d signed a quartet of performers to exclusive contracts: newbie Manuel DeBoxer, ex-Falcon stud Tristan Jaxx, hunky Bo Matthews and former Ridgeline Films exclusive Damion Rios. In the press release, company CEO Chris Ward praises Falcon, but feels RSS is more appropriate for the rugged good looks of Mr. Jaxx (”We will shoot him with his chest hair!”).
