Press Release Roundup: The wave of consolidation in gay adult — Titan Media absorbs MSR Videos, Channel 1 Releasing nabs All Worlds Video and Catalina Video, Raging Stallion Studios merges with High Octane, Dark Alley Media buys PrimePork Amsterdam — continues with the announcement that Bear OmniMedia has acquired Brush Creek Media, its catalog, and all related assets, and will repackage their most popular titles for re-release into the DVD market. GAYVN is reporting the first titles are three classics featuring erotica icon Jack Radcliffe: BIG BEAR TRUCKING CO. (1999), LEATHER BEARS AT PLAY (1997); and PALM SPRINGS VACATION (1997). Bear OmniMedia is the umbrella company for Bear Video, ButchBear, Backroom Films and other related websites and media. “We’re very excited to be releasing these classics on the Bear [Video] label,” Bear OmniMedia CEO Steven Wolfe says in today’s press release. “These videos also helped lead the way to greater hyper-masculine acceptance in the gay mainstream market.” Additional plans include the reintroduction of Bear Magazine, which went dark in 2002 after 15 years of publication. It will be made available as a free quarterly starting in September at adult retailers, gay bars and other related events. May’s HOUSE OF LEATHER starring Tober Brandt was the first Backroom Films release (click here). Brush Creek entered the video market in 1996 under the auspices of Bear-Dog Hoffman when he purchased Bear Magazine from company founders Richard Bulger and Chris Nelson. By the by, did you catch last night’s episode of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List? Ms. Griffin was shown entertaining the furry multitudes at this year’s International Bear Rendezvous, and offers a giant, friendly PR boost — dare I say “bear hug”? — to the entire bear community.

  1. ‘Bear’ Mag Snags Zeb Atlas, Goes National : The Adams Report by JC Adams on November 22, 2009 1:03 am

[...] Press Release Roundup: The folks at Bear Omnimedia sent around word the other day that erotic Bear magazine — with its focus on “the unapologetically hyper-masculine gay male” — is now available at Borders and Bookworld national chain stores. “Beginning with issue no. 69 which features a hairy Zeb Atlas on the cover and centerfold, Bear will join the two large chains for increased exposure and to further meet the needs of our bear customers,” a company rep said. The 22-year-old Bear mag was rescued from the scrap heap last year by Bear Omnimedia. It first went dark in 2002, having preceded the dozen or adult gay-adult mags that have gone into the light in recent months. It is now published quarterly. “Despite the economy and various naysayers, Bear’s growth has been unstoppable in an evolving industry. I’m also rather pleased that they’ve put us in the ‘men’s sophisticate’ category, alongside Playboy,” said Editor in Chief Steven Wolfe. “It’s a great acknowledgment and entrance into the mainstream.” See also: * “Tober Brandt is Feeling ‘Bear’-ish” * “BEAR Video Hugs Jack Radcliffe” * “Bear OmniMedia Gobbles Up Brush Creek Media“ [...]
