[Edits 2:55 pm.] Review: Brent Corrigan‘s In the Closet screened last night at OutFest, the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, as part of a shorts program titled “Rough & Ready.” Written and directed by Jody Wheeler, the film is a short, sharp bite (no pun intended) of creepy fun. Spoiler alert: Stop here if you don’t want to know anything else. Mr. Corrigan plays a shy young pup who lures home an experienced older stud (J.T. Tepnapa) for his first bout of sex. But, natch, there are darker motivations at play and monsters lurk in the corners… Ten-minute running time heightens the pull of dread as the inevitable denouement unfolds. Corrigan is quite good as the young hottie harboring a deadly secret. He layers his character’s tentative, awkward mannerisms with an undercurrent of regret. One line reading√¢‚Ǩ‚Äù”Monsters don’t live under the bed”√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùis chilling and provides the kind of squirmy thrill fans of horror dine out on. Costar (and producer) Tepnapa’s easygoing swagger melts away during a moment of tenderness that underlines his particular appeal to Corrigan even as it seals his doom. Tech credits are solid, including saturated sound, ominous shadows and seamlessly integrated special effects. It screens again Sunday, July 20. [Image √Ǭ© DoorQ.]

Unfortunately, due to an unexpected conflicting schedule that held us up in Pennsylvania an extra day, Brent Corrigan and myself were unable to make it to the Premiere! We’ll definitely be looking forward to seeing it 20th, Jody!

Haven’t posted here in awhile, but I was at this screening. JC, I wish I knew what you looked like or I would have introduced myself and my partner! I have to agree, Brent was very good. It’s not reinventing cinema or anything, but it was an entertaining ten or eleven minutes. And director was highly complimentary of Brent, in response to someone’s question about “taking the risk” of casting a porn actor.

Also, how HOT was that lead actor in the short film “Bramadero”?? I was shocked (and pleased) at such explicit sex scenes. It was beautifully shot and composed, but I thought it was pretentious, frankly. But that actor took my breath away. Per imdb, he’s either Sergio Almaz√ɬ°n or Cristhian Rodr√ɬ≠guez (were they ever identified on screen? I don’t remember.)
