We’ve received some hate mail for writing about Mikey Verdugo of HGTV‘s Design Star having filmed a bondage video 12 years ago (click here and here). We have nothing but respect for his talent and chutzpah, but isn’t the cat out of the bag√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùas it has been for Mr. Verdugo since 1996, when he filmed ROPE RITUALS for Tom “Ropes” McGurk√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùwhen you decide to hit up a reality/competition show knowing you’ve done porn? What do you think?

in general respect their privacy UNLESS they display homophobic behaviour or language.

agreed respect uless they do not respect or act like that nasty marine character..12 years is VERY long time in porn especially considering the fact this is not mainstream stuff ..nor probably ever would be..its just mean and salicious

Sorry, but you have to expect that a porno you made when you were 22 would resurface if you enter the public eye in some way. Nude modeling or even solo videos are one thing, but trying to get your own show on a network geared towards middle americans, as JC says, when you know you did a porno back in your 20s, is taking a big risk. Even if none of the gay bloggers wrote about it, and Verdugo won his own show, you think the mainstream media wouldn’t catch on eventually? That someone at TMZ or Perez wouldn’t ever notice? I respect him for going for it and I’m sorry he was eliminated, because he seemed like a good guy and genuinely good at his craft, but it’s a story regardless.

F list reality show contestants are not celebs.

There is just no way around it — your porn past will catch up with you eventually, so why try and hide it? It would make matters worse if, say, he won and THEN it came out, and he possibly gets canned as a result. Lay all the cards on the table at the outset.

I would hardly call him a celebrity.

If you’ve done porn and you are aiming for a career in the public eye, you have to be prepared that it’s going to come out eventually.

And what is wrong with a porn past?

If it was legal(it was) its a part of our sexuality…

We Really need to get over our Putranical American past!

And if he gets fired by the PD down there I hope he sues their socks off!

I feel kind of bad that he lost his job over something that is 15 years ago….I did a lot of stupid things in my 20′s too…but if no crime was commited why be penalized for it now. It would be one thing if he were currently making those films while serving as an officer, but that is not the case. I used to get shitfaced and “dance” on bars here in my hometown but that is not who I am today…I’m lucky I guess that I picked a field that will not fire me for not meeting “professional image” standards
