New Release Desk: At left is GYPSIES, the new release from director Cristian Ferrero‘s South American Pictures (via distributor Arena Entertainment). Man, we haven’t had a good gypsy-themed porno in ages. I think the last one was helmer Csaba Borbely‘s THE TEMPTATION OF THE GYPSIES two-parter back in 2003, filmed with European actors. Although, as you might imagine from their costumes on the DVD insert, it was more along the lines of TEMPTATION OF THE BANDOLEROS. The Brazilian version comes with this hilarious tagline: “They don’t want to read your palm…just your cock!” Bless. The flick stars Leo Aranha, Alex Bad Boy, Caio√¢‚Ǩ‚Äùgoddamn, am I sick of South American models named “Caio” or “Tiago”√¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùTiago Castro, Alex Leite, Sam Mendes, Henrique Radvan, Patrick Valente and Celia. Cristian Ferrero is prolific and although their erotic qualities are hit-or-miss, his determination to find a theme, any theme, to tie together a film’s DVD insert design, tagline and the sets and costumes is kind of endearing in a loopy way: SALON SLUTS was about sluts in a hair salon; UNDER THE BIG TOP was circus themed. Other recent titles have been themed around the ocean, aliens and “medicine men” (“They’ll put a spell on you!”), etc.
