Dylan Saunders is “Black Balled”

We’ve written a bit (heh…) about Channel 1 Releasing‘s upcoming bisex epic SHIFTING GEARS: A BISEXUAL TRANSMISSION. Most of the action in that film takes place in a garage. (Horny mechanics?! In gay porn? The hell, you say!) Another film shot at the same time was BLACK BALLED 6: UNDER THE HOOD. That all-sex fuck flick features Mr. Dylan Saunders, a slim-and-sexy newbie with a lantern jaw and tight buns that won’t quit. “The last BLACK BALLED with Dean Monroe was really good. But this one is fabulous,” directrix Chi Chi LaRue tells me. “And the reason why this one is so fabulous? The cast is stunning.” CLICK HERE for more scoop…
He notes that African-American models often don’t want to appear in an all-black feature. And if they do, they usually prefer not want to interact with each other. Not this time. “They were all into each other as much as they were the bottom,” Ms. LaRue enthused.
“I even got one of the other guys fucked! And that never happens, okay? And I’ve had a lot of people say to me, ‘How come the black guys don’t do each other or touch each other in those movies? It’s very strange.’ Well, they touch each other in this one, honey.”

Another performer was originally set as the bottom and dropped out just as production was to get underway. Ms. LaRue praised Troy Prickett at Falcon Studios for referring Saunders. “He should be proud of himself. He ranks right up there with the Dean Monroes and the Luke Savages.”

Whoever does these photoshoots should realize that a dude sprawled on a car hood with his bottom up in such a pose is not very masculine, and consequently, not very sexy.

I think once again that Chi Chi has latched onto another winner Dylan is one attractive, sexy guy. He has that Channel 1 look that keeps me coming back for more!
Black Balled 5 with Dean Monroe is going to be pretty hard to top.

I’ll undoubtedly see it, since as I said, it’s my big fantasy, but one should take Chi Chi’s hyperbole with a HUGE grain of salt. I’ve yet to hear him say, “Well my new film is really crap. I’ve done much better work.”

Dylan was great, the other guys were great, and I really do think this one is gonna be hot. I can only compare this cast with the one I worked with in BB4…and it’s hands down a better overall group of guys. Almost everyone “brought it” to the set. And there were some of the biggest (and hardest) dicks I’ve ever worked with.
All I can say is that I’m glad Doug Jeffries and Chi Chi asked me to do this one.

So now Markus also feels this is hotter than earlier entries. Again, as a participating party, this constitutes sales pitch, not disinterested opinion. When I see a participant in a video say, “This new one sucks. Please don’t see it.” about a video in advance of release, I’ll start paying attention to their “opinions.”
I’m not saying BLACKBALLED 6 is going to be bad. For all I know, it may well turn out to be smoking hot. I truely hope it is. I’m just saying that the pre-release “opinions” of folks who worked on a video are valueless, as they are publicity, not buzz. I’ll be interested in what the critics say.
That said, a lot of gay porn critizism is just more industry boosterism. I can’t remember the last time I read a negative review in MEN or UNZIPPED on on ManNet.com, although there’s nothing unusual about my renting a video that received raves on all three (Raves being all they ever run) and found it to be a lousy piece of crap. I would love to find a reliable source of actual reviews, designed to actually clue patrons on to the good ones, and warn us away from the stinkers. What’s been posted here on this film is just fake buzz.
Douglas — I appreciate your thoughtful criticism. And I agree with you about gay porn criticism. But I think it’s clear from this story that it is an interview with a director in advance of a film’s release, not a review of the film. It’s intended to give people a taste of the film’s flavor.
I’ve noticed that if I don’t like a film I tend not to mention it. This probably comes from years of reviewing for the Adam Gay Video Directory, which had limited space and the publisher would always jettison a negative review in favor of a positive one just to give people a sense of what’s good out there; he felt that the absence of a review could be an indication of its quality (I disagreed, but I wasn’t signing the checks).
In any case, that practice sort of sunk in and became habit. It’s worth reconsidering.

I understand that this piece was a publicity-puff piece, not a review of a video. That was part of my point. That in a puff-publicity piece, anything a participant in the making of the video says regarding it’s quality (or “hotness”), as opposed to merely informing us who is in it, and what it consists of, and interesting FACTS about it, is valueless. Chi Chi always says everything he’s just shot is the best or hottest thing he’s ever done. This is not just true of Chi Chi, but of anyone in that position. I am interested in knowing of this movie. I’m interested in any details about it. I WANT to see it. I am not interested in Chi Chi’s (or Markus Ram’s) statements about it’s quality, as these will be, by necessity, self-serving, and I will end up deciding about its quality for myself. (As I, for instance, thought BLACKBALLED 4 sucked, but 2 and 5 were terrific.)
My remarks about porn criticism was a seperate-but-related issue. As for the plethora of only-positive-reviews, it is truely a mistaken policy. I don’t trust a critic whose reviews are always positive, any more than I trust the reviews of a critic whose reviews are always negative. (Critics of anything, not just gay porn.) When I read good review after good review after good review, I stop paying attention, because it has become mindless industry-boosterism, and not criticism at all. The critic loses all credibility. And we as readers, end up feeling that he’s not watching our backs, but just shilling for advertising dollars. (And you know as well as I that that is the REAL reason for jettisoning negative reviews. Bad videos buy advertising too, but not in a forum that just called them lousy.)
And also, the fact is, negative reviews, or even just negative remarks within an otherwise positive review, are the most entertaining to read. An endless parade of “Oh my God, this one is so hot my eyeballs melted!” reviews get boring after a while, VERY boring. Very quickly.

The same goes double for membership website reviews. They are usually either positive or rather neutral. You will seldom find a negative word printed about any website that buys ad space.
Really, Douglas, you thought BLACK BALLED 2, with Luke “I can’t suck a dick or rim an ass or stay hard to save my life” Savage was terrific?? Membership website reviews are always positive, or the review of their updates is always good because the blog where the review appears wants you to sign up s they can get their affiliate share of it.
