Man of the Year Pick Generates Debate, Controversy

Holy schnikes, did our gay-for-pay story about Reese Rideout kick off a firestorm. Scroll down just two stories to read the many comments attached to our post earlier this week, and join the debate. We’ve got a good, thoughtful, passionate discussion going about straight men and gay porn. Cheers to the new Unzipped blog for linking back to our story ‚Äî “Man of the Year Passions Erupt!” ‚Äî but the gay-for-pay debate is just one of three, count ‘em, concerns over Mr. Rideout’s Men magazine cover. According to Unzipped, “bookstore chains have taken issue with Reese’s Mad Max-esque codpiece” and therefore the company will be wrapping the cover “so as not to offend the timid.” Oy! Elsewhere, GayPornBlog.com actually waded into the gay-for-pay thing a day earlier than we did: “…readers of this blog know [we] are huge fans of his. But would it kill Men Magazine to pick an actual gay man?” And then there’s my pal Victor at MOC Blog who links back to our original story, and goes on to dissect the troubling lack of non-white choices presented for the Man of the Year honor: “…What I see as much sadder commentary about this whole debate is that it’s primarily a bunch of white guys arguing about another group of white guys… The fact of the matter is the dialog about the controversy is still being controlled by whites for whites and only two or so of the comments really addressed that. And that, to me, is the real controversy here.” Thoughts?

Gay Porn Docu Series Premieres in Hollywood

The Scene: Wednesday night saw the premiere of the gay porn documentary series Everything You Wanted to Know About Gay Porn Stars* (*But Were Afraid to Ask). The classic Vista Theater on Sunset Boulevard was rented out for the night (sorry, James Bond) to generate some buzz for the seven-episode series airing on subscription cable channel here! Networks now. The premiere drew about 100-120 people, including series creator John Roecker and various here! suits, camera crews from the WOW Report and The Cover Code, plus cast members Kris Anthony, Nick Capra, Caleb Carter (wearing only dark jeans, a pink tie and some Gucci cologne, despite the cool weather), Nick Piston, Jason Ridge and Danny Vox (if I missed someone, apologies). Also in attendance: manager David Forest with Dempsey Stearns (all floppy hair and hot, skaterboi ennui) and Dane Brando (remember him?); directors Jett Blakk (who cameos in the series), Gino Colbert and Phil St. John; editor/director Andrew Addams; and a bunch of models whose names I gave up trying to remember because my pen ran out of ink. Spike Returns to XXX for Joe Gage

Press Release Roundup: Early last month we wrote about D/G Mutual Media, the new boutique label formed by powerhouse porn biz duo Joe Gage and Ray Dragon. Their first film is CLOSED SET: ORAL REPORT (Arena Entertainment). “The movie is wall-to-wall sex,” he told me. As Mr. Gage explained last month, “the premise is that Ray and I are bringing a group of men together to test our new HD cameras and see how the guys look in the new format.‚Äù The cast is composed of ‚Äúmostly amateurs, with a few guys who have some titles on their resume… and the return to the screen of a pro who shall remain nameless for the time being.” Well, with the film’s December 1 release date approaching, the identity of that pro has been revealed (as you can see in our headline): Spike, who has remained offscreen for a few years at least (there are a lot of damned models named “Spike” out there). Crime Blotter: Taleon Goffney Sentenced to Prison

Crime Blotter: Taleon Goffney will serve four to eight years in state prison for a one-man burglary committed in December 2007. He was sentenced in a Philadelphia courtroom Tuesday, November 18. Mr. Goffney, 26, is currently awaiting a separate trial on burglary and conspiracy charges with his twin, Keyontyli, and their mother. The twins are known to gay adult as amateur performers Keyon and Teyon of BlackMen.net and other companies. They were arrested February 19 “in South Philadelphia by a tri-state Rooftop Burglary Task Force that was created to investigate 45 similar crimes,” according to a newspaper account. Their mother, Towana, 42, was arrested in April for allegedly serving as a lookout. She and Keyontyli Goffney are free on bail; Taleon has remained in prison since his arrest and will receive credit for time served. Taleon Goffney is a martial arts enthusiast who “became notorious among police for his skill at escaping,” including a leap from the roof of a building he was caught attempting to rob. While handcuffed, he smashed out the rear window of a police cruiser with his head “and dove out of the moving car. He ran off before jumping into a nearby pond… taunting officers, saying ‘You’ll never catch me.’ ” His attorney and fiance contend he has been reformed. Nevertheless, Common Please Court Judge Michael Erdos said Mr. Goffney was “a repeat, multistate ‘equal-opportunity offender’ who committed crimes while on probation, while awaiting sentencing and while awaiting trial.”

We wrote yesterday about RandyBlue.com studmuffin Reese Rideout having been named Men magazine’s new Man of the Year (CLICK HERE or scroll down a touch). Mr. Rideout is publicly gay-for-pay (if he’s bi, he is not open about it); he takes over for gay-for-pay Johnny Castle, who in turn took the crown from gay-for-pay Zeb Atlas (before then it was very openly gay Luca DiCorso). Some of our readers have expressed misgivings about a gay adult magazine choosing to lionize and promote a straight man (or one who professes to be hetero) when there are plenty of openly gay or bi men who are equally deserving. Gay-for-pay is all over the place these days, particularly in the amateur and pro/am online markets. So are we perhaps seeing a small backlash?
