The Biz: ’09 GAYVN Awards Official Announcement

Porn Awards: Earlier last week, we gave you the skinny on the 2009 GAYVN Awards (CLICK HERE). The other day, Adult Video News made the official announcement together with an ongoing revamp (more to come) to GAYVNawards.com (Logan “Tattooed Man” McRee‘s body is used as the model here). “The 11th annual GAYVN Awards will be presented by NakedSword.com and will feature a three-day weekend of events, all culminating with the Big Game: the show known as the Oscars of Gay Porn.” They’re clearly going with a sports theme this year. NakedSword.com is the End Zone for all the nominated studios and performers on the web, and is excited to take on the role of co-producer for the 2009 GAYVN Awards,” said NakedSword CEO Tim Valenti. “We have a winning playbook filled with exciting ways to stimulate consumers while celebrating our industry friends, and we look forward to turning the GAYVNs into an anticipated annual event in San Francisco. We are revved up and ready to take all the action to the streets!”
The kick-off event will be an industry party sponsored by Unzipped Media on Thursday, March 26. Tickets will cost $50 and all proceeds will go to benefit ASACP.
On Friday, March 27th, the bars of San Francisco’s Castro District will host the biggest studios and nominees of the year for a giant tailgate party that only NakedSword and the Stop AIDS Project could orchestrate. From bar to bar the boys will be stiffer than the drinks, spilling out into the streets to welcome consumers to share in the excitement of the night. Fans will be able to mingle with their favorite players, from MVPs to rookies!
Before the Big Game kicks off, join Tim and Roma for a live taping of The Tim & Roma Show at a pre-show brunch, Saturday, March 28, starting at 11am. All proceeds from the brunch will benefit the StopAIDS Project, proving a great way to support the community as we gear up for the Main Event.
That evening, the entire weekend of events will come to a head with the Big Game, the 11th Annual GAYVN Awards Show. Be at the Castro Theatre at 7 p.m. for a night of glitz and glamour with the gAy-List of the gay porn industry.
After the razzle-dazzle of the show, join us for Homecoming, the exclusive official after-party presented by NakedSword. Homecoming will begin at 10 p.m. immediately following the awards show. Come down and have some drinks with the crème de la crème of gay porn as we celebrate our industry and the people who drive it.

Even allowing for hyperbole, isn’t this a bit misleading? It sounds like if a particular studio or producer hasn’t made a VOD deal with NakedSword, they aren’t eligible for a GAYVN Award. Sponsorship is one thing, but shouldn’t they avoid implying that the nominations are rigged?
Two years ago when I attended the GAYVNS I could not attend the pre party or afterparty since it was industry related.Are they opening it up to the public? I’d rather go to the Castro district on Friday than pay $200 for a GAYVNS VIP ticket.I’m not going to the awards in 2009.
Why bother? They are rigged, plain and simple. To whit, yet another confirmation that bareback is “welcome at the GayVNs” albeit with a twist: the hostest with the mostest is the one who decides which bb films can be nominated (and of course, which films/studios cannot).
Very convenient for Raging Stallion going bareback, don’t you think?
Just a thought, just like the AVN Awards coincide with the AEE Expo, The GayVN’s should bring The GayVN Expo to San Francisco. It makes perfect sense, especially now with there being a three day kick off.
Jamie I heartily agree almost ALL Award shows are rigged. Don’t matter as long as you know this. Besides GayVN’s have absolutely no impact on sales.
They do not recognize Online subscription content at all and THAT is where the money in Gay Porn is being made.
GayVN is just an excuse to get drunk in an extremely overpriced environment.
The highlight of last years show was all the shenanigans in the glass Elevators Porn stars being their incorrigible selves!
Thats why I like the Grabbys if your going to celebrate Porn lets show some XXX!

Actually if you want fabulous hosts, who will grab and KEEP the audiences attention who better than 2 porn stars who are up to the task?
