Dept. of WEHT: Alex Collack, Jon Galt

Dept. of WEHT: Yep, that’s Alex Collack — a/k/a/ “Awesome Aussie Abs” — with boyfriend Jon Galt on the beach recently in Maui. Hot House writes that Mr. Collack’s “charm and professional, hard-hitting sexual performances make him an all-time favorite” with their staff and crew. He’s one of my faves, too. Alex Collack has to be one of the nicest guys I’ve met in this biz, right up there with Cole Tucker. Nice to see he (and Mr. Galt) are doing well and looking as edible as ever. Straight Guys Go ‘Beyond Gay’ in ‘Humpday’

Back in January, I was thumbing through the catalog for this year’s edition of the Sundance Film Festival and came across the description for Humpday from writer/director Lynn Shelton. It features Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard (remember him from The Blair Witch Project?) as “two former Big Men on Campus who reconnect after a decade of suburban ennui, fall back into old patterns of behavior, and enter an amateur porn contest where they dare themselves to have sex with each other.” It went over well at Sundance and was picked up for distribution by Magnolia Pictures, which has now set a release date for July 10. Pictured here is the newly spiffed up poster. The press materials insist their same-sex dare is “beyond gay… It’s not porn; it’s an art project.” On the one hand, I’m curious to see how an indie film (penned and directed by a woman) handles a couple of straight guys tackling the notion of a fluid sexual orientation. And yet…am I being peevish to just roll my eyes at the idea of yet another tale of straight male sexual panic? (And don’t get me started on the “it’s not porn, it’s an art project” fol-de-rol.)

SeanCody Stint Disqualifies Mr. Panama Winner

Funny how some stories emanating from GayPornLand never go anywhere and others end up spooging all over the gay blogosphere. Take the case of handsome self-described hetero Ryan Oliver, recently crowned “Mr. Panama 2009” by — um, someone or some contest recently. He was unceremoniously stripped of his crown and scepter when organizers learned he had done a strip-and-wank session (as “Andy,” pictured) for SeanCody.com (runner-up Diomedes Bustavino now wears the crown). His story has reverberated around the cyber-grapevine today. Really, how does this not happen more often? As my colleagues at TheSword.com note, it happened to Max Schutler last year when the International Mr. Gay contest organizers stripped him of his Mr. Argentina 2008 title. By the way, I think it was some kind of modeling contest in which Mr. Oliver was involved.

History of Gay Porn is ‘Bigger Than Life’

Press Release Roundup: Congrats to my colleague Jeffrey Escoffier, whose book examining the history of gay adult will be published next month by Running Press, the same imprint who last year published autobiographies penned by Bobby Blake and Blue Blake. Bigger Than Life: The History of Gay Porn Cinema from Beefcake to Hardcore will officially be published May 25. They’re sending me an advance copy, so look for my review soon. Mr. Escoffier has been working on this book for awhile now. In fact, I was in San Francisco collecting interviews for my own book when I caught wind of another writer doing the same thing. I gulped hard and tracked him down, only to discover it was Mr. Escoffier. He was feeling the same trepidation, but we were both relieved when we realized our respective books took different approaches to the same subject. (And mine won’t be out until the holidays anyway.) Although it’s certainly more convenient to order online, if you live near a gay (or independent) bookstore, please pick up your copy there if you can. You can always ask them to order and hold it for you.

Steve Cruz Wraps Spooky, Erotic ‘Green Door’

Dramatic AMG Web Revamp Sees Past, Future Merge

The revamp is intended to transition the studio away from dependence on the sale of tangible goods as well as showcase a storied history that stretches back six decades. The tech makeover includes its flagship website for Athletic Model Guild as well as the online home of subsidiary label AMG Brasil. The first stage of the relaunch includes “thousands of images, hundreds of HD video scenes, and historical memorabilia from the studio’s past. Both sites are completely free to the public for one weekend only, after which time our regular membership fees will apply,” AMG Director of Communications Christopher Trout said. The revamp serves two purposes: the first is to reposition AMG in a rapidly evolving market that has seen consumers migrate online. And the second is to tout the company’s cultural significance. “We’ve come a long way over the past few years.
