jack-wrangler-headshot[Editor's note: Gay Porn Times has signed a deal to provide LGBT content to industry publication XBIZ.] Actor, producer and adult industry legend Jack Wrangler died today in New York City. He had been suffering from complications from lung disease. Wrangler enjoyed a prolific career encompassing scores of gay and straight adult films throughout the 1970s and ’80s, and his life and career was the subject of the 2008 documentary “Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon.” He was 62 years old. Wrangler is survived by his wife, cabaret chanteuse Margaret Whiting. Their surprise marriage in 1994 reignited Wrangler’s tabloid notoriety, but the partnership endured. “The world just lost a gay hero,” director and Channel 1 Releasing principal Chi Chi LaRue told me. What a loss. In an era of mindnumbing sameness Jack Wrangler was a true original. Smart, sexy as hell, a class act. The porn world lost a true original. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Sad, sad news, and it comes just as he was popular again thanks to the documentary. Amazingly, I met him once just walking down the street in New York. He seemed surprised that I recognized him! I didn’t have the guts to stand there and talk to him for very long, but at least I had the chance to tell him that I was a huge, huge fan and remain to this day. He seemed grateful. Here’s to you, Jack Wrangler!

Peace to you, Jack. You were a true stud, a true man, and an artist above all else. You meant the world to me when I was coming out in the early 1980′s. Love to you and your family. Peace.

I’m taking this one kind of hard. Jack was a big deal for me. I saw him in str8 porn first and imagine my surprise !!! when I found out he did gay, too!! I have never been so shocked and I can still remember that day when the video clerk showed me a gay porno with jack in it.

You will NEVER be forgotten, JACK WRANGLER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack was really one of the major stars in the gay world back in the bad old days. He and Casey Donovan and Al Parker, and so many others gone now. I had the pleasure of meeting him twice on his jaunts to the West Coast. In later years, it was always a pleasure to see that he was thriving and enjoying life.

That “Wrangler” documentary was light as a souffle, but it put a smile on my face. Truly, he was an iconic star that we just don’t see these days. They don’t build ‘em like Jack Wrangler anymore.

How interesting that Perez Hilton took note on his site. My condolences to his wife, family and friends. We’ll never forget you, Jack.

Rest in peace Mr. Wrangler. A true ”STAR”.

In heaven right now, a tall cowboy is saddling up next to Ronald Reagan. They exchange curt manly “how do you do’s” and in minutes Reagan is all like legs high in the air & yelling “Jesus mother of Nancy, where have you been all my death?” And the angels are watching, if you know what I mean.

I’ve got tears in my eyes as I write this comment. Jack Wrangler was in that rare class, along with Al Parker, Casey Donovan…originals, pioneers, HEROES of the gay community. Seeing him on film back in the day made me know that everything was going to be all right…that there were masculine, loving, handsome sexy gay men in the world, and that one day I could find one (or more) like him and fall in love.
    Thanks for everything, Jack.

Here in the UK I remember Jack Wrangler vividly seeing him first in a ‘film club’. That handsome face, sexy body and presence was something I will never ever forget. You are now the Spirit of Eternity!

His death even got a mention from the Associated Press. Now that’s saying a lot.

Jack Wrangler, Gay Porn Idol, Dead At 62

That Associated Presse story got picked up everywhere. Good for him.

My condolences to his family and friends. Seems like he was a good guy who lived a full life, as it should be.
