Founder Jim French Sues COLT Owners

Jim French, the founder of venerable gay adult company COLT Studio, has sued its current owners for breach of contract due to an alleged failure to pay the bulk of a $2.2 million promissory note related to the 2003 sale of the company. He is seeking a return of all company copyrights and assets to his possession and for the court to order these assets to be sold in order to repay the note. Jim French Studios Inc. filed the lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court on April 13 against Prowest Media Corp. for breach of contract, naming as defendants current Prowest Media President John Rutherford, Chief Financial Officer Thomas R. Settle, among others. Prowest Media has controlled COLT Studio since May 2003. “As the old saying goes, ‘There are two sides to every story.’ We regret that Mr. French has chosen to pursue his differences legally where only lawyers will prosper,” Rutherford told me for XBIZ when he was reached for comment over the weekend. “Please know that after nearly 20 years in this business learning from the best, we have every intention of working our differences out.” CLICK HERE for the full story at XBIZ…

Mr. French is notorious for suing everyone – he had to sell the company because he had nearly lost it all due to lawsuits! As John says, I’m sure there is two sides to this story!
Suing over a dead carcass?
Remember the good old days, when “the envelope” of Colt brochures would arrive every couple months, and you KNEW you’d be in for an evening of scintillating muscle JO! Maybe in buy a photo set. Now, these bozos who run Colt are as boring as any other porn studio, and their stuff is just yawn-worthy hacks. Only Rutherford knows if they ripped Jim French off, so BFD, but every so often when I glance at their self-important elaborate website, I just laugh, and wonder who in this day & age when there’s 27 tons of fresh hot athletic guys willing to show off their stiff dicks on the Internet for free, who in hell is forking over a thin dime for the likes of squishy Carlo Masi, and Colt ..

I have been a John Rutherford fan for many years and I have also loved Colt too. I have to disagree, Mr. Rutherford and his new Colt have done a great job and I for one will support them. I have a friend who met Mr. Rutherford a few years ago and during the playing of the documentary they did for the gay film festivals and said he was a gentleman and someone very special.
I have read articles and interviews from him and he seems very nice and honest. On the other hand I have never heard or read anthing about Mr. French, so I think we need to wait and see both sides to the story as Rutherford says.
Poeople love to critise and knock downt he folks on top, so have it. I am sure many will love this bit of news to soak their claws into.

Sales of DVD’s are no longer enough to support gay adult companies. Be prepared to see many of your favorite porn production companies downsize or close all together.
This might be true for you ordinary studio, but since Colt and John Rutherford were the first in toys, licensing their name to non DVD products you would think they wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
As usual, these things have a way of working themselves out. Next news please!
