caution-aim-clip-art[Update: 06/17/09] L.A. County health officials have released data noting 16 “previously unpublicized” cases of porn performers who have tested positive for HIV, the Los Angeles Times reports. “At least 10 of those cases involved men who had sex with other men,” reports the Times without indicating whether those men worked exclusively in straight adult or in trans or gay porn. “The previously unpublicized cases will probably shock adult industry workers, who repeatedly have described the new case as the first since 2004,” said the Times. “It was not immediately clear whether any of the previously unpublicized HIV infections involved workplace transmission of the virus.” These are in addition to the five cases in 2004 — a male performer, three of his female scene partners and a separate trans performer — that briefly shut down straight adult production, and brings the number of known HIV-positive performers to 22. This number includes “Patient Zero,” the as-yet-unnamed female performer who tested positive on June 6 and is current under quarantine from further production. “Rumor is rampant when the words HIV and porn are in the same sentence; the media is like a moth to a flame,” said AIM Healthcare Foundation executive director Sharon Mitchell. “We are finding that many clients, patients and companies are tempted to discuss this delicate matter with the world for whatever personal or professional gain. Fact is, that we are still awaiting final confirmation on the Patient Zero, who was given a positive result on Saturday, June 6.” Earlier this week, Cal-OSHA launched an investigation of Patient Zero and her work environment. 06/17/09 UPDATE: “County Health Officials Backtrack on Porn Poz Cases”.

Its about time that somebody stepped up and called bareback porn by its real name: illegal, inhumane, criminal, and stupid. The apologists for that side of the industry are at best idiots and at worst criminals themselves.

Wow, jesus_mary, your name seems to fit. Before you work yourself into a tizzy, take a deep breath and wait for the details to emerge, because as of now, none of the cases involve the gay (read “bareback”) side of the biz. Further, given that AIM has been aware of and keeping some 10 cases since 2004 “secret” until now, there is clearly more to this story than meets the eye.

I was going to address your wild-ass assertions and epithets, but I’m taking my own advice and waiting until more information is available. My guess is that none of the “secret” cases involve seroconversion on the set, as AIM has been and is forthcoming with such details, as this case proves yet again. Or, I could let my worst-case scenario thoughts prevail, and suggest that there is a reason for AIM’s withholding of the revelation of multiple cases since 2004, like they were on safe-sex sets.

So then Jamie, are you saying you are in favor of unsafe sex between people? Just checking. If ‘yes,’ then are you also in favor of paying people to have unprotected sex for personal profit? Again, just checking. If yes, Jamie, do you yourself have unsafe sex with other people?
