Quotable: Colton Ford on Porn Backlash
July 24, 2009 | 3 Comments
Quotable: “One of the things that I didn’t figure in doing porn was that people were going to have such vehemently negative feelings about it. I’ve gotten emails from people saying that it’s abhorrent and that it goes against what’s right and normal. And these are people in my own community. You know, I still think we’re dealing with a lot of shame in our community. There are people who really get into porn and then lash out against guys who do the films. I guess they don’t feel entitled to enjoy that sexual part of themselves. I will say, however, that there are plenty of people who are more than able to look beyond that part of my career to see what else I have to offer. Those are the people I’m looking to reach.”

Yep, Colton – ignorance and intolerance continue to thrive in the gay community; maybe we’re a little more enlightened than our straight brothers in this regard (and maybe we only think we are…
) but if you’re a porn model, an escort, bisexual, etc. etc. than you can be prepared for a large number of gay people who are totally prepared to judge you as worthless as a result!
After all, we may be gay but we’re still human beings! LOL
So is that supposed to be the eerie glow of a desktop computer? Its sort of ‘blueberry girl’ from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.
A lot of people in the industry use fake names. The stigma is real, and for real reasons. Not everyone in the sex trade works hard to improve its reputation, that’s for sure.
Ford uses the phrase “…people in my own community” as though everyone in “his” community is carved from the same block of marble and consequently should have the identical ideas, beliefs etc. When in fact nothing is further from the truth. If you want to be lashed at try being a member of “the community” and not supporting Obama….or having “(R)” after your name…then you will know the real meaning of a lashing. The gay community is no more monolithic in its beliefs, feelings and attitudes than any other societal sub-culture but I do think they are somewhat more vitriolic in punishing someone who goes against the perceived mainstream.
