steve_cruz_condom-artThe next phase of a safer-sex campaign undertaken by gay adult membership site NakedSword and performer-director Steve Cruz is underway. They have collaborated on the How I Roll line of “high-end designer condoms,” a company rep said. Cruz produced the condom in conjunction with NakedSword and his safer-sex and sexual health awareness website HowIRoll.info. Hundreds of the condoms were first distributed at the Up Your Alley street festival in San Francisco in late July and will be given out at all upcoming NakedSword events, the rep said. Also, customers who place orders through RagingStallion.com will receive a free How I Roll condom with their shipment. CLICK HERE for more details…

“The gay community has given me so much, I just want to give something back,” Cruz said. “Before I got into porn I spent almost a decade working for nonprofit organizations spreading messages about harm reduction and safer-sex in the gay community. But it wasn’t until I became a porn performer that I felt even more on the front line.”

His onscreen work led to the decision to eroticize safer sex techniques as well as “provide real information for real men in real situations,” Cruz said. “There are always ways to keep it hot without the risk.”

“Filthy desires can co-exist with healthy choices,” said NakedSword CEO Tim Valenti.

“We’re proud to strengthen our partnership with Steve” — upon whom the site bestowed their 2009 NakedSwordsMan of the Year promo title — “and to support gay men’s sex lives across the globe with safer sex resources and stylish new condoms — not to mention loads of hot porn, of course.”

The How I Roll condom was designed by illustrator Glen Hanson with a caricature of Cruz.

    Couldn’t they have found someone who’s, shall we say…remotely attractive for this? Steve Cruz=ron jeremy of gay porn.

    This is the full statement I released yesterday. A lot of my original message probably didn’t fit into news sound bites but for fans and critics I wanted to give you the full statement:

    “Before I got into porn I spent almost a decade working for non-profit organizations spreading messages about harm reduction and safer sex in the gay community. But it wasn’t until I became a porn performer when I felt even more on the front line. I noticed an increased pressure from my hook ups to have unsafe sex. The only place I didn’t feel this pressure was on a porn set, because the companies I work for require the use of condoms. That’s why I campaign to keep safer sex sexy! With my limited resources and information provided by the Stop AIDS project of San Francisco I created howiroll.info. Real information for real men in real situations.

    In addition I wanted to provide a condom. The gay community has given me so much, I just want to give something back. A year later with generosity of Naked Sword, that is now a reality. There is a lot of different kind of porn out there these days and it’s really not my place to judge. When it comes to your real sex life… no matter who you are there is something you can do to keep negative men negative. Use condoms or opt to do things that minimize exposure- no risk activities. Keep it hot without the risk. Visit howiroll.info and find out how!”

    How many porn stars bother to go the extra mile this way? Not a big fan of hairy guyz (preferring the jason pitt types) but good for him for doing this. I will grab a few when I can as souvenirs.

    Steve Cruz is bringing a voice of Responsibility to an industry that is not Known for it’s Ethics. Kudos to Steve Cruz. I’d call that very sexy.
    If he Keeps Cruising. I’ll keep watching.
    Thanks Mr Cruz,
    Kevin Lately

    It is best to be safe and to be sure on both sides of the Atlantic, or anywhere in the world come to that!

    I wonder why more porn stars don’t get their own condoms. It would seem like a natural choice, right?

    Two points:

    1) “it’s really not my place to judge.” Oops, too late;

    2) “why more porn stars don’t get their own condoms.” Because most don’t use them except on the set (at least for studios that require them);

    and a question: regarding Lately’s statement “an industry that is not Known for it’s [sic] Ethics,” who, specifically, does this refer? More directly, what pornographer(s) act unethically?

    This whole subject is beyond tired and its all Ego Stroking,(Iam better than you NAH NAH)

    If you want SAFER SEX dont have any jeesh people need to hear how all this PONTIFICATING sounds.

    Yes I MEAN PONTIFICATING!

    No matter how hard you try no one is ever going to Fetishize condom use so the best thing (IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT MODELS) is to roll the damn things on and be done with it (OFF CAMERA) Porn performers douche before a scene that doesn’t mean I want to see it!

    To the Pornsumer out there all this conversation about condoms and porn ethics is as surreal as

    Republicans Talking Family Values

    (no insult intended to Steve Cruz who I admire, just this whole subject is a Boner Wet Blanket)
