Manhunt Acquires DList Majority Stake

Press Release Roundup: Hookup site Manhunt has purchased a majority stake in the four-year-old social networking site DList. It is the first major acquisition by Manhunt in its eight-year history. The announcement was made today by Jonathan Crutchley, chairman of Online Buddies Inc., parent company of Manhunt. As part of the acquisition, Online Buddies CEO Adam Segel, and CFO, Richard Scott, will now serve in the same capacity for DList. The site’s founder, Todd Sowers, has recently taken the position of chief marketing officer for Online Buddies; he will retain a minority stake in DList, and as COO he will continue to oversee the site’s daily operations. “Online Buddies is committed to providing the biggest and best arena for men to meet men on the internet. While many gay men love sex, and sex-related sites, others are looking for friends or for simple social networking with other men. This is where DList comes in,” Mr. Crutchley said.
“Our acquisition of DList allows Online Buddies to broaden the scope of services we offer to men around the world.”
Adds Segel, “We are excited to be able to present our members with yet another platform on which to express themselves.”
DList was founded in 2006 “on the principles of personal and creative freedom of expression,” Sowers said. “We created the best online community for gay guys and their friends.”
He said the acquisition allows DList the resources and infrastructure to become “the leading social network for gay men globally. We needed [what] Online Buddies brings to the table.”
A site rep notes that although Dlist and pro/am website OnTheHunt are under the Manhunt umbrella, “all will remain separate websites; however, executives do plan to take advantage of cross-promoting across platforms.”
Manhunt and OnTheHunt will continue to focus on “sexually explicit content” while DList offers “a milder platform for men to connect with one another.”
