Advocate Talks to Hustlaball Sex Workers

The press reps for Advocate.com want to draw your attention to a story on their site titled “I’m a Hustla” (it’s not clear if it will also be featured in the magazine). Writers Brian Joseph Ferree and Hugh Ryan spoke to eight sex workers, both male and female, who were in attendance at last week’s Hustlaball New York 09 (see the link below) and briefly quizzed them about the emotional and physical impact of their jobs, whether the recession has adversely affected business, and so on. One of those interviewed is Cory Koons [pictured], although no mention is made of his skin biz career. And the first guy, Damien, looks familiar, but I can’t place him. The comments section features some positive and supportive words, but most of it is your standard-issue viciously judgmental, pearl-clutching hysteria.

That article was shiite! They could’ve asked better questions. And “Damien” is the guy that did that documentary with his ex, “Hunter”. Who I believe is also a sex worker and did a few porn films.
YAWN. When journalists cover prostitution (gay or straight) they invariably take one of two approaches – the mind-numbingly superficial approach or the ‘expose’ designed to advance some deeper political/ideological agenda. This article took the first approach – ’nuff said…
