Flava Works Responds to Hustlaball Bias Concern

Earlier this week we blogged about Flava Works marquee star Cody Kyler winning best actor at the inaugural Hustlaball Berlin awards last Friday. There has been some complaint that it was Mr. Kyler, the studio’s first white exclusive, who brought Flava Works one of its trophies. Some felt it was done at the expense of the studio’s popular ethnic performers. See the links below for background. Flava Works CEO Phillip Bleicher has responded to those concerns: “Award shows tend to cater to small, specific demographics, so they certainly can be a bit biased even when public nominating and voting is involved,” he told me. “That’s why it’s important to have several awards, like the [Flava Men] Blatino Awards, serving exclusively the ethnic porn world. In any case, a win is a win, and Cody is obviously an up-and-coming favorite of many. Most of Cody’s work so far has been interracial, so by being awarded he also introduces our top-notch ethnic talent like DeAngelo Jackson to a wider audience.”

Phil is not stupid in his business savvy. He won’t (and can’t) say it, so I will.
Phillip Bleicher has used the gay porn industry’s racism against itself. I’m sure he knew that making a cute white guy like Cody Kyler an exclusive would raise FlavaWorks validity in the racism minds of gay porn media. Look how many times Cody’s name has come up on sites and in magazines that have NEVER mentioned any other exclusive from FlavaWorks like staple Breion Diamond or Elmo Jackson ( my personal FlavaWorks favorite).
Bottom line is these complaints are not ludicrous or unfounded. The proof is in the pudding.
Flavaworks’ position here is interesting I mean it’s obvious whats going on and sucks that they have almost always had amazing/standout performer’s yet true recognition only comes when that performer is white yet, all this IS getting their name out there… so.. thats a plus? right?
What will be really interesting to see is what happens when Cody’s contract expires…. Flava will go right back to rarely/never getting talked about and Kyler probably will wind up in a porn billed in at least a semi-racist way. Think; “Cody Kyler, he also likes WHITE chocolate” or “Cody Kyler, sometimes you DO GO BACK”
And the problem is?
Of course Cody Kyler is going to raise their profile, but just maybe some fans will discover more at Flava Works to their liking, I know I have London D for example,Ricco Furtado or Wellington!
FlavaWorks NEEDs a higher profile I agree and if Cody gives it to them then this was an Inspired idea!

Most of my black friends are already talking about not buying anymore videos from Flava Works. There are other companies to purchase black videos(like Forbidden Funk).
I was shocked Flava Works would send Cody Kyler to Atlanta’s Black Gay Pride/Blatino Awards back in September. I was like, what????

Tre Xavier is one of those pseudo-intellectuals that could not argue his way out of a paper bag. All of his value comes from commenting on blogs and slicing every move in porn as rscist. He does not see that his own personality is so toxic that he can’t even give his ass away unless it’s at a sex party where the lights are dim.
Lee’s see: he’s a failed porn performer, failed go-go dancer, could not get a porn business off the ground and is a 40 year old man who could not even hold onto a job in a mail room. And now, his only friend in porn is his ignorant boss, Victor Hoff.
Flava Works making this white kid an “exclusive” is nothing more than marketing. Where are their press releases promoting their black exclusives? Flavemen is doing nothing more that capatlizing on the stereotype of the thug and the white twink. Xavier will bitch and moan about other black stereotypes in porn, but this one is OK.
What you say about Tre may or may not be true Joseph but that doesn’t let the gay porn industry off the hook on their blatant racism.
I’ve had the DVD, DORM LIFE 17 by FlavaWorks in my possession for awhile now, but just now is the 1st time I really looked at it. In watching Cody Kyler’s performance, I have to say that all EVERYONE on these gay porn news sites is saying about how great a performer he is is truly a bunch of undeserved racist media hype. And that’s putting it mildly. His scene with Markell is nothing more than another little twinkie white boy taking a black cock and making a bunch of noises for the sake of making the buck. He shows no love of sex whatsoever, and gives no impression that if it hurts, that it hurts so good. Both qualities being what a great porn performer should embrace.
I made my previous comment on this post before seeing this movie, and even while making that comment, I had some understanding of those who were annoyed. But now after seeing this scene, I understand people’s annoyance waaaay more than before.
Let me make it clear that I do not fault Cody Kyler for this at all. He’s young, and I’m sure he doesn’t understand the position he’s being put in. This is the work of gay porn media’s racism and FlavaWorks playing into it. What troubles me is that Cody Kyler will one day either look back at this time in porn with either regret, OR he’ll climb the ladder so he can continue the chain of using people by putting someone else in the same position in the future that he is in right now.
