Trailer’ed: Lucas Entertainment’s ‘Obsession’

Press Release Roundup: Since we’re talking about trailers today, Lucas Entertainment has announced they are shipping OBSESSION, the psycho-sex-thriller we’ve blogged about several times (see the links below). As the studio press rep notes, the blue movie “follows the emotional and sexual tensions between a philandering psychiatrist, a deranged patient” and the “disturbing consequences” from satisfying their cravings. Nate MacNamara wrote the script and co-directed with Michael Lucas. Pictured here is Spencer Reed, who is a bit of a rising star right now. Hey, folks, I just got off the air with the “Derek and Romaine Show” on SiriusXM radio. The entire segment tonight was all about piss-heavy fuck flicks in gay porn. The boards lit up! (I’ve always wanted to say that.) We jawed so long about watersports we didn’t get to any other news. But the upshot of the segment was whether gay adult is reflecting an upswell of interest in watersports among gay men, or rather instead that studios are simply rushing to jump on the bandwagon and flooding (pun not intended, but I’m keeping it) the market in an attempt to lure the lucrative fetish-market dollars. Marriott Targeted for Marketing Condomless Porn

A movement to legally require the use of condoms in all adult film production in California takes a new twist today as two groups plan to protest the Marriott hotel chain. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Pink Cross Foundation claim Marriott acts as a “middleman” in selling condom-less porn productions because it makes millions from the pay-per-view lineup it offers in its hotel rooms. The groups are planning a “Porn In” tonight at the downtown Los Angeles Marriott. They also will announce an advertising campaign for a hotel boycott. They will protest in front of the Figueroa Street Marriott with banners and three-foot wide condoms. Later, a press conference will be held in a hotel room with streaming porn on the room’s flat screen television. AHF President Michael Weinstein said that until he gets a commitment from Marriott officials to block condomless adult films to their hotel guests he will urge a public boycott of the entire Marriott chain. “We want to highlight the brazen hypocrisy — the Mormon Marriott’s moral masquerade — of such a so-called family oriented hotel chain profiteering off adult films that endanger the lives of the performers acting in them,” Weinstein said. Gay Porn Awards Show Update

I’ve been taking a lot of questions about the status of our various gay porn awards ceremonies next spring. So I did a little leg work. As our Constant Readers know, the GAYVN editor was laid off earlier this year and all of AVN Media Network‘s trade magazines, including GAYVN, were folded into one publication starting with the September issue. As for the awards show, I’ve been unable to reach anyone who can give me an on-the-record update. Stay tuned. Otherwise, the XBIZ Awards (which includes several LGBT categories) and 10th Annual Cybersocket Web Awards (Chi Chi LaRue and Jason Sechrest have already been named as co-hosts) are tentatively set for February 2010 and will likely be held within several days of each other in conjunction with the XBIZ Conference (no details have been officially announced). And the 2010 Grabby Awards will unspool May 29 at the Park West Theatre in Chicago. “The Grabby host hotel will be the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan Avenue,” show producer Mark Nagel told me. For the second year, they will invite fans to nominate their fave porn stud to join Ms. LaRue and Honey West as an onstage co-host (you’ll recall Wolf Hudson‘s offer to teabag anyone who voted for him, an enticement that worked.) The nominations process kicks off on January 2, 2010.

Montreal Hosts ‘Sex, Labour, Smut’ Film Festival

The Sex, Labour, Smut Film & Video Festival concludes tonight at Concordia University in Montreal. The festival is a co-production of the Concordia Documentary Centre and Cinema Politica. Films began screening Friday night and had to meet two of three criteria for inclusion (see the title of the fest for clues). Programmers Shannon Harris, Svetla Turnin, Thomas Waugh and Ezra Winton have observed “a boom in documentaries that explore the pornography industry and prostitution,” they note in a curator’s statement. “Yet many of these films perpetuate gendered, sexist, voyeuristic-male-hetero-fantasy representations of sex and labour. To address this dearth, we are presenting this unique festival of older and recent titles that break free of these limited articulations.” Two of those films are 1998′s The Fall of Communism as Seen in Gay Porn, and 1997′s Finished about the late performer Alan Lambert, both from director William E. Hot House, Flava Works Snag Hustlaball Berlin Awards

Press Release Roundup: The Hustlaball Berlin 2009 string of events, under the auspices of Rentboy.com, unspooled this past Friday and presented an awards show for the first time. Winners were announced in 16 categories recognizing gay adult entertainment from both the United States and the European Union.
