Judge Rejects AHF Petition Requiring Condoms in Porn

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David P. Yaffe yesterday rejected a petition by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) that sought “a court order to compel county public health officials to require condom use on porn sets or take other reasonable steps to stem the spread of disease,” per a report in the Los Angeles Times. The AHF sued L.A. County this summer following news that a straight-porn actress had tested positive for HIV and after country health officials released information reported to them by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) showing “18 HIV cases and more than 3700 cases” of other STDs since 2004; AIM officials contend most of those cases did not involve active adult industry performers. AHF President Michael Weinstein said his organization will appeal Tuesday’s decision. “This is going to be a years-long battle and it’s going to have its ups and downs, but we know in the end that public health is going to win,” he told the Times. The Free Speech Coalition (FSC), in what it describes as “a preemptive move,” has developed a blood-borne pathogen plan outlining safety precautions and risk reduction procedures for the adult industry but does not require condom usage. Following industry input, the FSC will present the plan to state legislators. Notes FSC Executive Director Diane Duke, “Too many times our industry is regulated without even having a seat at the table. This time we are building our own chair.”

FSC, AHF Battle Over Condoms in Calif. Porn Biz

XBIZ: State regulators have received a demand from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) seeking an amendment to clarify protections for adult performers on the set. That clarification would include a condom requirement for all films shot in California. AHF’s request to Cal/OSHA was made after the adult industry’s trade group, the Free Speech Coalition (FSC), made public a best-practices plan for the control of bloodborne pathogens on the set. AHF officials called the FSC’s plan a “fig leaf that doesn’t cover much” and reiterated that it has filed 16 worker-safety complaints with Cal/OSHA over the lack of condom use. The FSC’s plan covers worker safety and addresses numerous practices over everything from controlling waste to housekeeping to the cleaning of sex toys. It also addresses training, as well as pre- and post-scene evaluation, and makes examination recommendations for new-to-the-industry performers. On Monday, FSC Board Chairman Jeffrey Douglas blasted the AHF for petitioning state regulators and urging them to make porn companies responsible for making all productions condom-only. “AHF’s petition is part of its effort to mislead the public into believing that adult industry practices endanger the actors and models performing in the industry as well as the general public,” Douglas told XBIZ. “Such a position is fundamentally false. There is no justification for requiring a modeling shoot or a film set to function at the same standards as an emergency room,” he said. “Football games, boxing and mixed martial arts matches are all entertainment where open wounds cause potential exchanges of blood not only between performers, but also the arena audiences. Canada Bans Watersports, BDSM Fetish Flicks

The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA ) has recently flagged five gay adult fetish sexpics as obscene, thus barring them from entry into the country, per a report on Xtra.ca. The adult films in question are PISS MY CUM AWAY (Dirty Fuckers/Raw Films); PISS OFF (FetishForce.com/Raging Stallion Studios); SHOCK TREATMENT (Titan Media/TitanMen Rough); and SKUFF 4: DOWNRIGHT FIERCE (Hot House Entertainment). All of them were flagged between July 1 and September 30 this year. A fifth title, DIRTY PISS FUCKERS (Dirty Fuckers/Raw Films) was flagged earlier. Two of the five blue movies in question include extreme BDSM sexplay; the others, as their titles suggest, focus heavily on watersports. The CBSA considers “the ingestion of urine…with a sexual purpose,” even between consenting adults, as obscene. One individual urinating into another is considered “degrading and dehumanizing, with a risk of substantial harm,” the Xtra.ca reporter notes, adding that Canadian fetish fans “could order a physical [DVD] from an international seller — it might come through, it might not. You could also check out your local sex shop, they may have been able to get a shipment through without being seized at the border.” Earlier this year, the CBSA banned the Lucas Raunch fetish films PISS! and FARTS! for similar reasons. Controversial Peters Twins Episode Debuts

Blogosphere Picks Up Rainy O’Neal iReport Clip

We posted a scrap of news the other day (scroll down a few entries or click the link below) about Collin O’Neal, whose brief clip —with Jeremy Hall manning the camera — demonstrating the effects of heavy rains in South Florida last week was uploaded to CNN‘s iReport.com. The vignette depicts Mr. O’Neal soaked to the bone with a wet muscle T-shirt clinging to his torso. He and Mr. Hall had been shooting for OnTheHunt when moderate flooding occurred. Anyway, a few gay and porn blogs picked up the story and had a chuckle. It’s not big news; O’Neal has been uploading content to iReport for about a year or so. But we’re now into the second day of his presence on iReport pinging around the blogosphere with a number of larger media and gossip websites picking up the news. Who knew? Fans to Choose Grabby Awards Co-Host

Awards! Awards! Gimme more awards! Okay, so the 2010 XBIZ Awards nominations were announced last week; the winners will be revealed February 10, two days before the 10th annual Cybersocket Web Awards. Both shows will be held in Hollywood (see the links below). And as we reported earlier this month, AVN Media Network won’t be releasing any details about the GAYVN Awards until after their straight-biz show in Las Vegas in early January. (There is also the Blatino Erotica Awards in early May, and the FlavaMen Blatino Awards in September.) Meanwhile, the Grabby Awards are still set for May 29 in Chicago. For the second year, producers will offer fans the chance to vote for their favorite skin star to land a gig co-hosting the show (you’ll recall Wolf Hudson won that job last time). Collin O’Neal is Waterlogged

[Edited 1:40 p.m.] Mogul Collin O’Neal lives in South Florida and found himself trapped in by rapidly rising waters during last week’s heavy storms. He shot a quick clip and uploaded it to CNN‘s iReport.com. Turns out Jeremy Hall manned the camera; the hunks were apparently shooting for OnTheHunt when the flooding occurred. Researching Gay Adult’s Web Pioneers

Dept. of Self-Promotion: Greetings from warm, sunny, balmy Gay Porn Times world headquarters in West Hollywood. (Apologies to our Constant Readers on the East Coast of the U.S. who are currently frosting over and shivering in their booties.) I could use some research assistance from those of you with long memories. I’m working on a timeline of the gay-adult biz for an as-yet-unannounced project and what I’m having some trouble researching is when gay adult (or gay sex) sites first went online. LavenderLounge, for example, is a decade old. BelAmiOnline is around that age, too. Most of the big hook-up sites and web-exclusive studios came online during this about-to-be-concluded decade. But who were the earliest to climb onto the interwebs? I’m finding a few different answers. Feel free to chime in below. Cheers in advance!
