Mark Slade is a ‘Victim of Pleasure’

A few months ago I penned a piece (see the link below) about retired performer Mark Slade penning a tell-all memoir. As I wrote back in October, “(t)he 6′4, blond, cleft-chinned slab of beefcake kicked off his prolific erotic career in straight porn back in 1994 as ‘Frank Towers‘ and shot scores of films. In 1998 or ‘99, he detoured into gay adult with such flicks as CADET, CUFFED! and TWISTED for Studio 2000. His career switch was controversial — from the straight side; the Gays back then (not so much anymore) were more accommodating — and he worked primarily in gay and bi porn for the next few years, took a break and tried straight adult again, came back to GayPornLand for a few more flicks and then went straight again for another short run. He’s been offscreen since 2007 or thereabouts, having shot at least 150 films in his 13-year career.” That memoir is now available and I overlooked writing about it when I flew back to Slovakia last month. The book is titled Victim of Pleasure: From Frank Towers to Mark Slade and it’s available now at LuLu.com. I look forward to Mr. Slade’s take on the G4P debate, among other subjects. Press Release Roundup: One of the more popular stories we’ve run in recent weeks has been all about the newly discovered “pupcake” — I love that our Constant Readers have so readily adopted that descriptive — Brandon Wilde. Pacific Sun Inks Deal for Genre-Heavy Mobile XXX Site

Press Release Roundup: Production and distribution house Pacific Sun Entertainment has inked a deal with Gay4Mobile.com for an all-male adult mobile site. Company principal Mark Cave notes a number of movie categories will be available “so mobile surfers will have the greatest variety possible. The movies play on most mobile devices and thus can offer affiliates another program they can use to target the gay audience.” The content is broken down into nearly two-dozen categories: bears, bikers, foot fetish, leather, military, prison, et. al. The two companies are now actively seeking affiliates for the program. “We expect great things from this site,” Mr. Cave said. “The gay community needed a mobile site that had a wide variety of videos and we feel we are meeting that need.” PacSun CEO Pritam Sinha notes “mobile is the wave of the future.” He says the company has “ramped up very quickly” over the past several years and admits they “were definitely very late to the internet game. Pacific Sun is determined to be among the first to jump into mobile that is destined to dominate for the years to come.” A flood of all-male studios and production labels including Buck Angel Entertainment, Dominic Ford, Drake Rock Media, Jalifstudio, Liberate Studios and Lucas Entertainment have in recent months launched boutique mobile sites featuring branded content. Behind the Scenes with Hot House

Our Constant Readers know I’m fascinated by the nuts and bolts of how the porn biz works. I’ve worked for several studios over the years, in part, for this reason. Unfortunately, most porn-biz companies don’t bother to document their process anymore. BTS footage is often off-the-cuff interviews with performers that don’t offer a lot of insight, to be kind. Luckily, Hot House Entertainment still makes an effort in this regard. Pictured here are set photos for new, upcoming and recent sexpics. “While many studios shoot on location in seedy hotel rooms, a friend’s apartment or in a vacant studio with brick walls and very little else, Hot House goes balls to the wall creating magical sets for our high-quality, full scale productions,” Sister Roma recently blogged. The sets were designed and created by Christian Owen (yep, the performer) and Richard Board. The top pair of pics show a suite of medical offices for their fetish flick TRUST ME, I’M A DOCTOR (great title). GAYVN Awards to be Awarded in April

Adult biz trade publication AVN Media Network is now accepting pre-noms for the 2010 GAYVN Awards with the winners to be revealed in April. The announcement was made today. No details were given about a nominees announcement or show venue. Trophies will be handed out in 20 DVD categories and 10 Web categories, including Best Picture, Studio of the Year and Performer of the Year as well as Best Mega Site, Best Porn Star Site and Best Retail/VOD Site. Cablevision Testing Computer-to-TV Service

Cablevision will soon begin testing a service that will allow consumers to transfer content from their personal computer to a television. The “PC to TV Media Relay” service kicks off a trial run in June, Variety reports [subscription may be required]. “The service will allow users to view everything from photos, documents and videos stored on a hard drive to streaming videos from YouTube and Hulu or iTunes downloads and the like on their TV screens,” the paper notes. The service “will work with a software download that allows the user’s computer to communicate with the Cablevision set-top box without the need for any wires or other cumbersome connection steps, or so Cablevision promises.” The relay will “funnel content from a user’s computer through Cablevision’s network and send it back” through a dedicated channel, and as such, Variety notes, the service raises privacy and piracy concerns. The cable company is also working to develop a version of the service that will work with Apple computers as well as cell phones and other mobile devices. Presumably consumers will also have the ability to funnel downloaded adult content to their televisions. A commonly voiced complaint about VOD and mobile content has been the lack of detail and expansiveness afforded by the small screen of the cell phone or laptop versus a television. Services such as the one to be tested by Cablevision could render such an issue moot and further wound the DVD business model.

Chi Chi LaRue is ‘Filthy/Gorgeous’ at Cornell U.

Press Release Roundup: Directrix and celebrity DJ Chi Chi LaRue will return to Cornell University to headline the fourth annual “Filthy/Gorgeous” fundraiser sponsored by the school’s gay-straight alliance. She’ll be accompanied by Eddie Diaz and Cameron Marshall; last year, Ms. LaRue brought Jeremy Bilding and Blake Riley and their appearance was an unqualified hit. “Blake, Jeremy and I felt like the Jonas Brothers,” she said. “The students went crazy for the guys’ dancing, and my music was insane… There were times, like when I played Pink‘s ‘So What‘ that the kids were singing so loud that I turned the music completely off just to hear the 350 singing voices!” This year’s event will unspool Saturday, February 27 at the WSH Memorial Room at Cornell. Doors open at 10 p.m. It is a charity fundraiser benefitting Sylvia’s Place, a emergency shelter in New York serving homeless LGBTQ youth. “Last year the kids at Cornell made me feel like a rock star,” notes Ms. LaRue in the recent press announcement. “I hope lightning strikes twice.” The group Whore’s Mascara and Johnny “The Gay Pimp” McGovern are also scheduled to perform.

Erotic Past Bedevils Mr. Gay World Winner

I’m slowly catching up on the news I missed or overlooked en route back from Central Europe to GayPornLand. One story pinging around the gay blogosphere is that of the newly crowned Mr. Gay World 2010 — the handsome, clean-cut South African Charl van den Berg (pictured). He won Mr. South Africa in order to qualify for the Mr. Gay World title bestowed during a ceremony in Oslo several weeks ago. What’s the rumpus? Mr. van den Berg, 27, also shot a jackoff video (billed as “Chad”) for nascent South African porn label Liberate Studios, released last year. The Worldwide Mr. Gay organization strongly discourages any of its contestants to have any connection whatsoever to the porn industry. He shrugged off any controversy. “If people meet me, they will see me for who I really am and know that what is on the website is not who I am,” he told a Times Live reporter. “‘Chad’ was a persona they created… I did the video in April, long before I thought about entering Mr. Gay S.A.
