Making-Porn-poster-Matthew-RushPlaywright Ronnie Larsen‘s Making Porn is back on the boards. A production is running through Sunday, February 14 at the Empire Stage Theater in Ft. Lauderdale. Mr. Larsen debuted Making Porn 15 years ago — wow, time doth flit — and eventually added Ryan Idol, among others, in marquee roles. The play quickly became infamous for earning withering reviews — and selling out virtually every performance wherever it ran (the reviews got marginally better and it began a lengthy run Off-Broadway in 1996). Mr. Idol, Blue Blake, Rex Chandler and Matthew Rush, among other top erotic idols, toured all over the U.S. in the show and other works by Mr. Larsen for a good decade. He and producer Caryn Horwitz were central figures on the porn social scene at the time. The current production has earned an admiring review from the Miami Herald. (“Making Porn is not for everyone. Some will find it too explicit, others not explicit enough. But for the sold-out audience on Saturday night [it] was just right.”)

I actually caught a production with Rex Chandler. Yeah, it was pretty bad but I was expecting much worse, so I guess it wins by virtue of extremely low expectations. JC, you need to write one of these things. Every gay had to go to these Ronnie Larsen plays. Who knows why, but they did.
