Bratislava Dispatch: Baby Blues

Bratislava Dispatch: The weather this past week in Bratislava, Slovakia has been beautiful. Warm, fragrant breezes, sunlight just the right temperature. The men are starting to wear less and less clothing… I’ve been working on copy for forthcoming editions of iBelAmiNews.com, which you’ll be able to read in May and June. The other day I was invited to lunch with Johan Paulik and Lukas Ridgeston. I know I’ve talked about this in past dispatches, but it’s kind of spellbinding to sit across the table from Lukas and listen to him talk. He’s still handsome and muscular and just as wolfishly beautiful as ever. But those eyes! Those sapphire blue eyes that I would swear actually glow. Mr. Paulik has a sexy swagger in real life, as opposed to Mr. Ridgeston’s more composed demeanor, and he also sports arresting baby blues. But they’re bright, almost white. Lukas’ eyes shimmer with the warmth of the Mediterranean. I’ve met all kinds of skin stars at all levels of fame but very few possess that kind of bewitching aura. Kevin Williams had it; so did Drew Andrews. I only met Joey Stefano once, but you could feel that erotic mojo around him like a force field. You realize it’s not just beauty that makes a porn performer into a porn star, but something ineffably magnetic, an “It” factor that cements their legend. Okay, I’ll climb back down from my florid perch… Today is another travel day for me. We have something special and exciting in store for this humble blog over the next month. If you’ve been twatting with us on Twitter then you already know what I’m talking about (I can’t recall how many details I’ve spilled here on the flagship site.) Gus Mattox Opens ‘Canned Ham’ in Silverlake

Brent Corrigan Films Controversial Safer-Sex PSA

Press Release Roundup: Performer-mogul Brent Corrigan stars in a new safer-sex public service announcement produced by the Washington D.C.-based advocacy group DC FUK!T. “Although when Mr. Corrigan first entered the adult industry as a teen, he performed in bareback porn films, he has long since become an advocate for safer sex and has very publicly apologized for his past appearances in films depicting high-risk and unsafe sexual practices,” a DC FUK!T spokesperson said. The group cites “his ability to learn from his professional mistakes years ago and change his behavior” as a factor that lends added credence and emphasis to his advocacy, particularly “at a time when both bareback porn and HIV are unfortunately making a comeback,” they note. Bratislava Dispatch: Porn Names

Bratislava Dispatch: Greetings from Slovakia. I have spent the last several days wrasslin’ with jet lag and working on items for iBelAmiNews.com as well as the company’s upcoming launch of a new website featuring a passel of insanely adorable young pupcakes. This new venture is something of a return to Bel Ami‘s roots presenting heart-stoppingly youthful objects of desire. GAYVN Awards Secure Castro Theatre for Sept. Show

Press Release Roundup: AVN Media Network has again secured the Castro Theatre in San Francisco to present the 2010 GAYVN Awards. The 1600-seat classic movie house was the site of two previous GAYVN shows — in 2007, hosted by Kathy Griffin, and last year’s production. Several months ago the trade publication announced the annual kudosfest had been bumped to the end of September to coincide with Folsom Street Fair, annually one the largest street festivals in California. Following last year’s program, the weekend’s events will include a pub crawl where nominated studios and other companies will take over different venues for giveaways, meet-and-greets and the like. The pub crawl is scheduled for Thursday, September 23 and the awards are Friday, September 24. Video-on-demand network NakedSword has previously been confirmed as a “presenting sponsor.” With the move to September, the GAYVN Awards pre-noms period has been extended to June 15, encompassing all-male and bisexual blue movies (trans films are covered at the straight AVN Awards) released between January 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. Trophies will be handed out in 19 DVD categories and 10 Web categories, including Best Picture, Studio of the Year and Performer of the Year as well as Best Mega Site, Best Porn Star Site, Best Blog/Gossip Site and Best Retail/VOD Site. Two Become One: Reality-TV and Porn

The revamped Gay.com has taken note of the inexorable convergence of pornography and reality-television, a collision we’ve chronicled in this space for several years or more. In an an article titled “Reality TV vs. Porn: Two Masters, Same Game,” writer Sean Carnage interviews directrix Chi Chi LaRue — a Big Brother superfan whose reality-teevee addiction is legendary — and Santino Rice (as seen on Project Runway and RuPaul’s Drag Race) on the topic. “Intimate activities you were never meant to see— that is the juicy carrot that pornography has always dangled before us. But now porn isn’t the only entertainment genre that’s dangling things (both literally and figuratively) in front of viewers’ eyes,” the article notes. “Unscripted television has taken over the airwaves, and did it by mimicking adult entertainment’s low-budget, real-and-sexy aesthetic and production strategies.” Mr. Rice notes “the possibility that pornography and reality TV will become unified is inevitable. Especially on cable, where anything goes. Everyone is watching porn of some sort, but people are still scared of the word porn.
