'La Dolce Vita'-Lucas-DVDPress Release Roundup: Lucas Entertainment has prevailed in a long-running copyright violation lawsuit filed by International Media Films (IMF), the purported owners of the copyright to filmmaker Federico Fellini‘s 1960 classic La Dolce Vita. IMF filed suit in early 2007 over the multi-award-winning sexpic MICHAEL LUCAS’ LA DOLCE VITA. A further preliminary injunction request from IMF and its principal Alfredo Leone to stop the distribution and sale of the Lucas film was denied in April 2007. In yesterday’s decision, U.S. District Court Judge John G. Koeltl ruled IMF had failed to prove it was the copyright holder to the Fellini film and dismissed their claims. Further, “(t)here is no evidence that any consumer has returned either film on the grounds that the consumer was confused about its contents,” Judge Koeltl wrote. “Retailers and distributors of the Lucas film generally do not stock the Fellini film… [IMF] cannot show that it has standing to assert that there is confusion of origin or any other trademark claim and summary judgment in favor of [Lucas Entertainment] on the trademark claims is appropriate.” As the studio notes, a three-disc Director’s Cut Edition of MICHAEL LUCAS’ LA DOLCE VITA 1-2 is available on DVD and via streaming video at their web store.
