GPTimes Housekeeping
June 30, 2010 | 1 Comment
Housekeeping: It’s been a busy day here at Gay Porn Times. We had a slight scheduling mishap with my segment on “The Derek & Romaine Show.” However, it all worked out and I got off the air about 30 minutes ago. They didn’t take calls, so apologies and many thanks if you made the effort. We dished gay porn awards and how our boys are slowly, inevitably creeping into mainstream acceptance. In other news, CLICK HERE for my post (“You Gotta Have a Gimmick“) about DVD sales and rentals, which is drawing some intriguing comments including, most recently, from performer-mogul Owen Hawk. Finally, I spoke with a GAYVN Awards rep soon after the story below was posted and got some additional information about ticket sales. Check it out. And CLICK HERE to twat with us on Twitter if you wish. Faversham…

Alec Mapa to Host 2010 GAYVN Awards
June 30, 2010 | 13 Comments
[Edits 6:00 p.m.] Press Release Roundup: Comedian and actor Alec Mapa will host the 2010 GAYVN Awards, AVN Media Network has announced. It’s not the first time Mapa has taken the stage at a skin biz shindig: He co-hosted last year’s GAYVN Awards with Margaret Cho and Janice Dickinson, and entertained the crowd at COLT Studio‘s 40th birthday back in ’07. The GAYVNs, which carries a prison theme this year, will unspool Friday, September 24 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco in conjunction with Folsom Street Fair. VOD membership website NakedSword.com is serving as presenting sponsor for the second year. With the move to September, the GAYVN Awards eligibility period now encompasses all-male and bisexual blue movies (trans films are covered at the straight AVN Awards) released between January 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. Trophies will be handed out in 19 DVD categories and 10 Web categories, including Best Picture, Studio of the Year and Performer of the Year as well as Best Mega Site, Best Porn Star Site, Best Blog/Gossip Site and Best Retail/VOD Site. Per AVN, industry tickets are $100. General admission entry is available for $145. A VIP admission for $175 includes “priority seating and entrance to the exclusive after-party.” UPDATE: I spoke with GAYVN reps after this story was posted and confirmed that individual tickets to the afterparty will be available for $25 (no entrance to the awards show). And individual talent nominees will receive one ticket, no plus-ones. CLICK HERE for the official awards website and CLICK HERE for the AVN.com story.

Quotable: Sexuality is Universal
June 30, 2010 | 1 Comment
Quotable: “While in Berlin, [Jake Shears] came up with an entirely new concept for the album, based around the music that predominated in early 80s clubland, and, in Britain at least, the charts. 1984 was the year when the top 40 went howlingly, unrepentantly gay in a way never seen before or since: the big new artists were Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Bronski Beat; the hot new indie band was the Smiths; an array of high-energy records — ‘Where Is My Man?’ (sung by, of all people, Eartha Kitt), ‘So Many Men, So Little Time,’ ‘I Need a Man,’ ‘It’s Raining Men,’ ‘Searchin’ (I Gotta Find a Man),’ ‘You Think You’re a Man’ — shifted vast quantities. ‘That music worked universally. I think the trick is that sexuality, whether it’s gay sexuality or not, is a universal thing. I mean, everyone gets horny. I don’t think it really matters what kind of sex is being sung about because I think it still applies to everyone. It’s as if the party kind of stopped, and it’s no coincidence that happened hand in hand with AIDS. It set back the gay rights movement in a major way. I think we’re just moving past this 25-year setback. It placed a big judgment call on [the gay club scene]. Suddenly, there was a big, ‘Oh, you had it coming.’ I just started wondering where music was headed, where dance music would have headed, where all that would have gone. And Night Work is my hypothesis.”

Dept. of Self-Promotion: My monthly recurring gig as a porn-biz color commentator on “The Derek & Romaine Show” cycles up tonight and you are all invited to join the party. Listen for my segment around 4:05 p.m. PST/7:05 p.m. EST. Tune in to OutQ satellite radio on Sirius channel 109, or XM channel 98. My segment was postponed in May because I was walking the Camino de Santiago and then bumped a couple of times this month due to scheduling issues. But the show must go on, etc. Tune in!

New Release Desk: ‘Cum Fly with Collin’
June 30, 2010 | Leave a Comment
New Release Desk: I am still catching up on the various news items that broke during my six-week hiatus — something like eleventy-thousand emails piled up — including the announcement that performer-mogul Collin O’Neal has launched CUM FLY WITH COLLIN!, the debut title for a new subsidiary line of sexpics. Shot on location in Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Romania and Spain, the pro/am blue movie also features Jan Van Arse (heh…), Jorge Ballantinos, Casio, Vin Costes, Justin Harris, Icarus (doesn’t bode well, that name, does it?) and Joey Intenso. Mr. O’Neal is also credited as director and producer. Clearly the retirement he announced to great fanfare a year ago didn’t take. It’s in pre-order now and streets later this week. CLICK HERE for his web store (looks like WorldofMen.com is having some tech issues at the moment.)

Quotable: Straight People
June 30, 2010 | 1 Comment
Quotable: “There are six admonishments in the Bible concerning homosexual activity… and there are 362 admonishments in the Bible concerning heterosexual activity. I don’t mean to imply by this that God doesn’t love straight people, only that they seem to require a great deal more supervision.”
— Lynn Lavner, comedian.

Beauty Shot: Brandon Bangs
June 29, 2010 | 1 Comment

Beauty Shot: This lickable newcomer caught my eye recently. He’s currently featured opposite Gage Weston — as a top — in COLT Studios‘ recent GRUFF STUFF. He’s also filmed for Next Door Studios. “I first worked with Brandon Bangs before he even had a porn name. A little shy and not willing do anything but jerk off on camera,” blogs shutterbug Mick Hicks. “Expect to see more of this young hot pup and don’t be surprised if he ends up with his end up and bottoms.” Mr. Hicks refers to him as a redhead. Goddess knows we crave more redheads in porn, but I don’t see it. He looks dirty blond. I’m never crazy about kandy-kolored underwear, either, but Brandon makes it work. Anyway, yeah, sex on a stick. Top-Selling Porn: You Gotta Have a Gimmick
June 29, 2010 | 7 Comments
Periodically I like to look at the top-selling fuck flicks for various online retailers. Over at TLA Gay, the number-one selling gay adult DVD is TABOO featuring the Peters Twins from Bel Ami. That is followed by GETTING LEVI’S JOHNSTON (Jet Set Men), STEVEN DAIGLE: XXXPOSED (Rascal Video), THE TROPICAL ADVENTURE SET (Kristen Bjorn Video) and TALES OF THE ARABIAN NIGHTS SET (Raging Stallion Studios). Interesting to note that three of those sexpics feature a strong gimmick: twins doing each other, a real-life parody, a reality-TV star going XXX. (And number-six on the list is the 3D Harry Potter spoof from Dominic Ford Features.) CLICK HERE for more analysis…

Planet Porn: ‘Jersey Score’ Release Party
June 29, 2010 | 1 Comment

Planet Porn: Micky’s nightclub in West Hollywood also hosted, the night of June 23, a DVD release party for JERSEY SCORE via Jet Set Men. It was a busy week for beefcake in Boys Town… The sexpic, natch, plays off the barely suppressed Guido-brand homoeroticism of Jersey Shore. At left, costars Andrew Blue, Dean Coxx and Kevin Cavalli are joined by Josh Griffin and new Jet Set employee Rob Romoni. At right, Mr. Coxx pumps those impressive guns. Click the images to enlarge.

Planet Porn: Pictured is hirsute hunk Wilfried Knight on the promo trail for the recently released sexpic KINGS OF NEW YORK (Lucas Entertainment). He was the headliner at Cocktails with the Stars last Thursday, June 24, at Micky’s nightclub in West Hollywood. That’s Tucker Scott sharing the spotlight. Porn Legend Cameo in Scissor Sisters Advert
June 28, 2010 | Leave a Comment
The fabulous Scissor Sisters’ new album Night Work drops this week. Their multifaceted publicity campaign continues to unapologetically embrace Teh Gay — and the skin biz. CLICK HERE for the YouTube link to a larky snippet promoting the album’s release (it runs just about four minutes). Watch for a porn legend’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo at about the 50-second mark. “I’m more excited than a fart on a griddle!”

Brent Corrigan on Indie Flicks, Jennifer Love Hewitt
June 28, 2010 | 2 Comments
A recent post by Brent Corrigan is getting a bit of blogosphere attention. In a lengthy entry titled “Why We Need to Do It for Ourselves. And Bingo” he writes about a fundraiser at Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood for an upcoming indie film titled Judas Kiss in which he has a part, and has been in the works for over two years. One of the filmmakers is J.T. Tepnapa, his costar in a pleasurably creepy horror short released in 2008 (see the link below). Mr. Corrigan exhorts the gay community to come together to help get Judas launched. “Our hope was that my involvement could garner some, any even, interest in raising the capital to make a full-length feature possible,” he notes. “A queer little indie feature has a rough road to travel. It is not an easy journey. Certainly not meant for a director, writer or even actor of a faint resolve.” He says Judas Kiss is the “truest of the true independent films” and that audiences “will come to know [it] as one of the greatest queer releases of this decade.” Mr. Corrigan then spills quite a bit of detail about the mechanics of the fundraiser, which included auctioning off a set of his porn DVDs. One of the audience members, apparently a cast member on the reality-dating show The Bachelorette, was reluctant to place a bid. This gave Mr. Corrigan a bit of heartburn. CLICK HERE for the full scoop and to donate to the cause should you so desire. The DVDs eventually went to none other than Jennifer Love Hewitt. “So the Bachelorette is dumb and she has no guts. Jennifer Love Hewitt, on the other hand, has guts. And she used them.” Click the image to embiggen.

New Release Desk: Director Erik Rhodes
June 28, 2010 | 3 Comments

[Edits 11 p.m.] New Release Desk: I am still playing catch-up with everything that went down in GayPornLand during my blogging break. Towards that end, you may be aware that musclebod and longtime Falcon Studios exclusive Erik Rhodes has moved behind the camera. Here’s a look at the DVD inserts for his first two efforts: RHODES’ RULES — I’m surprised that title hadn’t been used already — and the latest, CROTCH ROCKET for the Mustang Studios subsidiary line. He doesn’t appear in the either sexpic. The latter toplines Mustang exclusive Samuel Colt — yum — opposite a testosterone-heavy cast: Cameron Adams, Drew Cutler, Sean Everett, Conner Habib, Arpad Miklos, Alessio Romero and Sean Stavos. Haven’t seen the film yet but I am looking forward to the Habib-Cutler tumble. Mr. Colt also heads up the cast of RHODES’ RULES, where he bangs the built-for-fucking Adam Killian. Cover stud Trent Diesel gets a piece of Tristian Jaxx. Costars include Andre Barclay, Tommy Defendi, Nash Lawler and Tyler Saint. It’s on DVD now, while CROTCH ROCKET drops July 16. Most episodes from both blue movies are screening online at Falcon’s website: CLICK HERE.
