George Duroy Tells All to Towleroad
July 8, 2010 | 10 Comments
Press Release Roundup: Director, producer and Bel Ami Founder George Duroy has granted a lengthy, detailed and quite dishy interview to popular gay blog Towleroad.com. Some of the material may be familiar to those who know Bel Ami’s history, but otherwise it’s quite juicy. Mr. Duroy dishes the condomless porn, the past and future of gay adult, the importance of generating controversy (“Michael Lucas could tell you something about this. It took me some time to digest this lesson”) and COLT Studio‘s bankruptcy filing, among other subjects. He also discusses gay-for-pay performers and whether the phrase “sexual orientation” really has any meaning anymore. “I am trying not to take setbacks and losses too seriously. In the end, life (and business, too) is only a temporary situation. Take it as a game; it’ll be much more fun,” he says. “I wasn’t so relaxed and blasé originally. I even went to a shrink at a certain point. He was so amused by my life story that he offered to treat me for free. When I walked out of his office and saw all the really desperate people, I told myself, ‘If it is fun for the shrink, it can’t be so bad.’ And started to take it easy again.” CLICK HERE to read the interview. (Full disclosure: Our Constant Readers know I work for Bel Ami as a freelancer copywriter and editor.)

Question: Why did you not get this lengthy interview, with all of your time spent with the Belami company and it’s staff over the past year and more?
@Alex — I do have interviews in reserve with Duroy and others for a yet-to-be-announced project, but I could’ve teased them online or something.
Regards,
JCA
barebacking is just wrong and belami should know better! this makes me not want to buy their stuff even more! its not like it’s easy to buy anyway. george duroy is a lair and this doesn’t sound like someone who speaks english as a second language. i smell something fishy!
I thought it was a pretty good lengthy interview and he did not dodge any question thrown at him.
Damn those abs are insane!!
I thought the guy sounded full of himself in that interview. Interviews done by email should not be called interviews. It should be called 20 questions submitted or “My email with this guy” but definitely not a bonafide interview.

@Alex..that would have been my question.
@JC I would have thought for sure, you would have gotten dibs on a very lengthy interview. My goodness, it seems as if you’re a member of their family in a way with all the time you spend with them (something I’m very jealous of *wink). However, I’m looking forward to this ‘other’ project. Keep us informed, bro’.
I’ve turned into a major Bel Ami fan-girl within a very short period of time.
The scenes in their films have a sensuality that I’ve yet to see anywhere else.
Full of himself? He didn’t come across that way to me. I thought that he was very forth coming with every question asked. Here’s a guy who is very successful, is a genius at what he does. It shouldn’t be any wonder that BA has been around for as long as they have, as well as former models staying with the production company. I think that’s awesome and it says a lot about the company as a whole.
One other comment regarding bare-backing..
I’ve been on the fence in regard to this for quite some time. Everyone has their opinions/reactions. I’m probably going to get flamed for this one so I’ve put on my asbestos undies for this, and here is my take:
If the scene is handled the right way, if everyone involved is aware of the health status of those intimately involved with the scene (the performers), I’m not sure there should be a problem. Also, if the two people are an established, monogamous couple where they would know of each other’s health status, then there should definitely not be a problem. Do these films promote unsafe practices? I don’t believe so. Safe practices rely on an individual’s common sense, I would assume. If you’re going to be intimate with someone whose health status is unknown, you need to take responsibility for yourself and make sure that precautions are taken to protect yourself and your partner. I may be wrong in my view, but this is only my opinion. Am I in defense of these films? Hardly. But I accept that they are a part of the gay porn industry, and I’m not sure they are going to go away any time soon, no matter what studio is producing them.
As for buying BA’s dvd’s: my source is TLA Video (TLAGay.com), a Philadelphia based company, where I live. Depending on where in the country or world you’re in, they have minimal cost shipping and sometimes they have exclusive editions that you can’t get anywhere else. TLAVideo is an awesome source. Check them out if you haven’t already.
