Gay Porn: Lesbians Love It, Too

The forthcoming indie film The Kids Are All Right has apparently stirred up a tempest in a tiny teapot in some quarters for a subplot involving its two lead characters — longtime-partnered lesbians with two teenaged kids — and their interest in gay porn. At one point, their horny son rifles through their bedroom looking for some dirty stuff and finds the blue movies. Director Lisa Cholodenko (remember the very fine High Art or Laurel Canyon?) co-wrote the script with Stuart Blumberg and briefly addressed the so-called controversy in an interview with gay blog Towleroad: “We were fumbling our way through early drafts. It came out of a conversation that Stuart and I had about gay pornography. We were talking about that and things people like. That came up and he was like ‘Really? Lesbians like that? We have to make a scene out of that!’ So, it came up organically and then we realized this is funny. What if the son is raiding the room for dirty movies and this is what he gets? And then it became a conduit for revealing the plot. It was a very organic process. It wasn’t ‘Let’s think of the most risque weirdo thing we can.’ It was rooted in something real.” This topic bubbles up with regularity in popular culture. Straight men go nuts for lesbian porn, so it’s not a huge stretch to think that women, lesbian or otherwise, might find the sight of two (or more) gorgeous guys going at each other to be arousing. Many of our Constant Readers are female. And the notion that women-who-want-other-women shouldn’t be aroused by the sight of man-on-man love is far too a restrictive view, I think, of the whole wide ocean that is human sexuality. Absolutely women — not just lesbians — love gay porn. On several occasions I’ve been perusing the porn section of my Superstar (the biggest rental spot in the Castro for those not familiar with SF) and chatted up women looking around. They tell me they like that the models seem to actually like each other, they kiss and caress — apparently, not done in straight porn that often, but how would I know
— one commented that gay porn is not just sexual, it’s sensual.
Now, the question is, what skinflicks did they use in this movie… who got the fantastic free publicity? Anyone know, or should I plan on going to see it?
I think those were old Colt movies they showed. Weren’t they JC?
I can sort of see why hetero women would get off on gay porn, but lesbians getting off on gay porn makes ZERO sense to me. I have never met a gay dude who was even remotely interested in watching lesbian porn.
The sensuality of gay porn was what drew me to it, like a horny moth to a glowing blowtorch, in the first place. I loved the fact that the men seemed really into each other, with a lot of kissing and touching. And I agree that is not an element seen in a lot of straight porn. It seems that in straight porn they just briefly kiss, then it’s right to the down and dirty right away. No gorgeous foreplay to get your motor started. It’s straight to the main event..BORING! And to think, I started my gay porn journey out of curiosity while researching my novel. I never thought I would have such a voracious appetite for the stuff now. My interests within gay porn may have shifted but not by a whole lot. I know what I like now and I’m having a complete ball…pardon the pun.
