[Edits: 08/02/10.] This past Monday we posted an entry noting the brouhaha that had erupted over an article published last week by Cybersocket magazine that named 40 all-male porn performers of note for the first half of 2010. There were no black models listed, for which several bloggers took Cybersocket to task. Our entry sparked more than three dozen comments (and counting) as well as numerous blog entries from others in and around the biz. The most recent is retired performer and provocateur Tre Xavier. Click the links below for some of the follow-ups. And here are just some of the black performers listed as noteworthy for one reason or another: Brian Bodine, Snow Bunni, Race Cooper, Chase Coxxx, Breion Diamond, Eddie Diaz, Enigma, Freakzilla, DeAngelo Jackson, Tyler Johnson, Jovonnie, Ty Lattimore, Markell, Aron Ridge, Rock [Rockafellaz], Ace Rockwood, Skittlez, Baby Star, Santino Vega and Diesel Washington (did Sexcyone make any movies this year?).

I am CONVINCED Morgan Summers list omission was deliberate. He damn well knew he was going to be pilloried and Cybersocket would be mentioned all over the blogosphere!

If he had included ONE black performer would we have noticed?

Its all a game folks just like when the Advocate and Cybersocket mentioned you know who last year!

All to get a rise and multiple blog posts from “outraged bloggers and readers”

Once you have been blogging for awhile you notice the BLATANT manipulation and learn to ignore it!

Unless of course attention for certain bloggers is the goal as well. ;-)

I did not call Zachary Sire a ‘racist.’ Here’s what I actually said:

Since Zach does not provide a link in his response to the original post, I thought it only fair if it were produced here. Thank you.

    Reproduced, rather.

Based on the public discourse that has taken place around this issue, it’s clear people have strong views on it. In spite of the progress that’s been made, performers of color still marginalization the industry in many ways. What’s going to be done to make sure progress continues to be made?

  7. Tre Xavier on July 31, 2010 11:48 pm

    odawg,

To make this progress happen, forstarters

1)more Black porn actors need to speak out on this matter. It is a damn shame that the only Black performers speaking out on this have been me who is now retired, Diesel Washington, and Chase Coxx. Where are the people whose names are being held in such high regard? Where are the other former Black porn actors who have nothing to lose? and
    2) the other porn actors (some whom are on that list) who have shown me support on my anti-racism stands in PRIVATE conversations, but say NOTHING PUBLICLY need to grow a pair of balls and go public with their support. Did I get myself blacklisted by doing being so vocal? Very likely,YES. But I knew it was just porn going in. So if you don’t like me, so what? I KNOW that I am a more powerful force now than when I was in the industry for staying true to who I am, and I couldn’t be bought. These non-Black porn actors keeping their feelings against racism silent show their “every man for himself” attitude. The problem is when they behave this way, they show how they’re not men, but instead selfish bitches.

Speak out? Why and lose their job/assignment? C’mon be realistic.
I’m all in favour for more colour in gayporn, just watch these free xtube sites, they all go for latino, interracial (top favorite!)and black and still producers won’t listen nor see.
When a stud like Tyler Johnson turns up i would have signed him up stante pede as did RandyBlue but RS and even ML turned their noses away instead of hiring him on the spot.

    Frederic,

    I REPEAT

    IT’S JUST PORN.
If being in the porn industry is THAT important to these guys, then they’re too stupid to be of any REAL good to society. Hence why so many porn actors off themselves when the phone stops ringing. I however, know better of myself, and that’s why I spoke out while still in the industry. I knew the possible consequences, and took it like a man. I got blacklisted and retired, and I’m still alive and well. And quite proud of what I’ve done with myself since. The guys who are being tight-lipped when they shouldn’t be, aren’t man enough to do that. They need being in porn as a symbol of the manhood that their being quiet in situations like this shows they are void of in their hearts.

  10. Frederic on August 1, 2010 4:38 pm

yes, it’s just porn but that doesn’t mean you have to make ennemies with those who hand out extras to you to go in life. Big mouthing won’t help. Be realistic. Moreover there’s too much animosity from your own part to those who are still in the bizz, let them.
I mean keep on going with your blog (i actually do read it) but don’t over-do it coz it will lose its effect. Chichi has hired black performers, michael lucaz has and randy blue has. Why not more? I don’t know? Availability? Money? Enuf good looks?
I think we customers are also partly to blame.
WE do NOT make ourselves be heard enuf. But then do producers in the states listen? I don’t see any problems with french based porncompanies (citebeur, cadinot, htey always go for a good mix)by the way.
When jason ridge started his own company, i was pretty enthusiastic about it but for some reason it did not work. Yet he had good ideas and good intentions.

    Frederic,

First off let me say that I appreciate your readership. And as you may have noticed on my blog, I’m talking less about porn, and more about sex in general, because that’s where the more interesting stories are. The American gay porn industry and LGBT community in general is in a state so repetitive….MY GOD, IT’S NAUSEATING! (Note to JC: I don’t know how you do it)

As for your comment, what “extras” are you talking about?

The fact is that after the porn industry there’s nowhere else to go but another branch of the sex industry, which OVERALL is an industry that is only good while your looks are good. After that, then what? YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN DESTINY AFTERWARDS. There are no “extras” in the porn industry to help you get to that destiny, so it’s stupid of these performers to live in fear of ruffling feathers.

What I’m saying in short is, if you’re going to sell-out, then do it for an industry that has some real longevity.

  12. Frederic on August 3, 2010 11:48 pm

extras? I supposed (wrongly?) that most pornstars have a regular job and do this work as an extra income. I mean with the (small) amount of porn releases you can’t make a living right?
From what I know several pornstars did find a regular job (or decent husband) after their porncareer.Let’s see what do you live from?
Social security? A job? Side jobs?

  13. Tre Xavier on August 4, 2010 12:05 am

    Frederic,

DO NOT TWIST MY WORDS AROUND BECAUSE OF YOUR WORDING THINGS INCORRECTLY!
If you look over your previous statement, it came out sounding as if there were some extras from the industry that models didn’t want to jeopardize losing. “Extras” is a word you used first, I was just repeating it.
And FYI, for your information, I had a regular job before, during, and after my time in the industry.

ONCE AGAIN, PLEASE check your wording to avoid misunderstandings. You’re starting to remind me of Tyson Cane, because he was notorious for that. And ask anyone in the industry he has had to deal with any thing that he’s written, wording things incorrectly, followed by misunderstandings was a common thing with him.

    MOVING ON….
