FBI Raid, Investigation of Adult-Biz VOD Giant Ongoing

Investigators including FBI agents and local police spent a second day yesterday in the Philadelphia offices of National A-1, the parent company of Hot Movies, Gay Hot Movies and dozens of similar VOD websites for all-male, straight and trans studios and labels. A local news report notes the raid was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation “in central Pennsylvania that began with a state police probe of an escort service there and alleged prostitution.” Among the network of websites National A-1 owns is Escorts.com. “Federal agents from the FBI, IRS and U.S. Attorney’s office loaded dozens upon dozens of boxes into a U-Haul truck under the watchful eyes of both city and State Police,” the report notes. Few additional details have been revealed. AVN Media Network President Paul Fishbein has spoken out in support of National A-1 owner Richard Cohen. “[He] runs his business like any other business—legally,” Mr. Fishbein said.

FSC Responds to GPTimes Reader Concerns

We wrote the other day about Treasure Island Media‘s announcement that the studio will begin releasing porn films in the spring featuring only HIV-positive performers. Our post included a statement released by the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) to XBIZ. “Despite our opposition to a state-imposed mandate for the universal use of condoms, FSC does not endorse the exploitation of potential HIV infection of performers for promotional purposes,” read the statement, in part. That provoked quite a response in the comments section to that story. FSC Executive Director Diane Duke read them and posted a response to some of your concerns. “This Cal/OSHA issue and the push for mandated condoms is a real threat. We are working with a number of industry professionals in an attempt to develop industry appropriate regulations for adult productions,” she writes. “Currently the standards that adult productions are held to are the same as medical clinics—yes, with goggles, gloves and lab coats. FSC Responds to News of TIM Poz-Only Porn Film

FBI Raids Parent Company of Adult-Biz VOD Giant

The Philadelphia offices of VOD website Hot Movies and Gay Hot Movies were raided this morning by “more than 100 law enforcement agents from the FBI and local police,” XBIZ is reporting. Parent company National A-1 manages an extensive network of dozens of adult-oriented VOD sites, including those for Buck Angel Entertainment and Rascal Video as well as many other gay-oriented sites. Most were offline at post time. An FBI spokesperson told XBIZ that no one has been taken into custody and “there have been no [federal] indictments filed.” Director of Business Development James Cybert said he expects the company to be back in operation by tonight. “Officers detained about 120 employees and released them before noon Eastern time,” AVN reports. “Cybert is unaware of the nature of the investigation, since the agents refused to show him the contents of the search warrants.” AVN notes, at post time, “company president Richard Cohen is apparently still in the building with the officers.” Stay tuned for additional details later tonight and tomorrow.
