GPTimes Interview: Director Marty Stevens

One of my tasks as a freelancer for Bel Ami has been to interview various members of their production team. Over the past year or so, I’ve spoken to the cameramen, location mangers, production managers, talent scouts, webmasters and more. These originally ran as a benefit for website members on iBelAmiNews.com, which is currently offline. I was given the go-ahead to run some of them here for our Constant Readers. First up, George Duroy‘s longtime director, shutterbug and cameraman, Marty Stevens—and his dog Bielko, who has become something of a company mascot. When I was interviewing Mr. Stevens on-set, prior to filming for the day, Bielko crawled right into my lap and went to sleep. Whenever his name was mentioned however, one ear would twitch. Taschen ‘Big Penis Book’ Goes 3D

In Print: The Taschen publishing house is hitching up to the 3D craze by reissuing its Big Book of… series in new 3D editions, including one of particular interest to our Constant Readers: the Big Penis Book. Edited by Dian Hanson and originally published in 2008, the oversized photobook features classic work by such pioneering erotica photographers as Bob Mizer of Athletic Model Guild and David Hurles of Old Reliable, plus COLT Studio, Falcon Studios and vintage photos from nearly forgotten companies like Champion Studios and Sierra Domino. Help Aiden Shaw with ‘Out’ Mag Bachelor Hookups

Last week, we wrote about skin studs Colton Ford, Francois Sagat and Aiden Shaw turning up on Out magazine’s ranking of Queerdom’s “100 Most Eligible Gay Bachelors” (see the link below). This tickled the fancy of Mr. Shaw and we’ve been Tweeting back and forth about the designation; he had no idea it was going to happen. “I guess I’m one of the few in this list that could arrange a threeway with any other,” he said. “Actually, a romping, big ol’ bachelor gangbang.” I told Mr. Shaw this gangbang should be his top priority for 2011, in any combination. He replied, “Which bachelor would you pair me with? Maybe we should put in a request.” I told him I’d put it to our Constant Readers. He added, “I assumed the list was to let us know who’s available. Comedian Whitney Cummings to Co-Host XBIZ Awards

Press Release Roundup: Comedian and actress Whitney Cummings has been named as co-host for the upcoming XBIZ Awards in Los Angeles, joining Digital Playground exclusive starlet Jesse Jane. “I’m so excited to co-host. Many of my male peers have gone before me and now it’s time to share a female comedian’s perspective on this industry,” she said. (Actually, comedian Lisa Lampanelli beat her by a month as co-host of the 2011 AVN Awards.) Ms. Cummings regularly performs standup around the country and is perhaps best known as an acid-tongued panelist on the late-night talk show Chelsea Lately. She recently had a pilot picked up by NBC and co-wrote another pilot placed at CBS. The 2011 XBIZ Awards are set for Wednesday, February 9 at the Hollywood Palladium. The massively expanded list of awards categories includes a number of gay- or LGBT-specific awards. Channel 1 Releasing, Falcon Studios and Raging Stallion Studios have two sexpics apiece among the 15 nominees for Best Gay Video; Raging Stallion has taken the top prize the past two years. Top Skin Studs Stirring ‘Cocktails’ in February

Lost Wakefield Poole Erotica Classics New to DVD

New-ish Release Desk: New to the retail market is THE FILMS OF WAKEFIELD POOLE via Gorilla Factory Productions. It’s the first installment in a planned series and features early erotica classic MOVING! (1974) and ONE, TWO, THREE… (1985) as well as “specially produced documentaries featuring Wakefield Poole and others revealing stories behind the films,” notes filmmaker Jim Tushinski in the press release. Mr. Poole, of course, is the erotica pioneer whose BOYS IN THE SAND starring Casey Donovan was a zeitgeist-capturing, genre-defining hit released in 1971 (prior to Deep Throat). This new collection is being issued with his cooperation. MOVING! was Poole’s fourth film and is presented here remastered from the original 16mm negative. Composed of three vignettes, it features Donovan and Peter Fisk. Highly controversial, the film is “a visual feast. It was one of the first gay films to show graphic scenes of fisting and was censored almost immediately after its initial release. Since then, it has rarely screened intact.” Among the cast of ONE, TWO, THREE… is JD Slater, who contributes a solo wank. Described as “both simple and experimental…with a minimal visual style, dramatic lighting and an innovative soundtrack,” the sexpic was intended as a fundraiser for AIDS service organizations, but was pulled following the suicide of costar Dave Connors.
