February 18, 2011 | 2 Comments
Press release Roundup: Performer Mike Dreyden has kicked off what he described as “an interactive game” with his fans. “They ask me any question on any topic and I answer it via video,” he said. The clips are then uploaded to his YouTube channel. The clip running at post time answers a fan-submitted question about underwear. “Normally, I don’t wear them,” Mr. Dreyden responds. Well, sure. He goes on to spend several minutes showing off the undergarments, bathing suits and jock straps he does prefer. If that sets off your kink alarm, you’ll want to tune in. He’s a witty host. Lucas Calls for Gay Male ‘Drug Intervention’
February 18, 2011 | 4 Comments
Press Release Roundup: Performer-mogul and Advocate op-ed columnist Michael Lucas has a new essay up on Advocate.com calling for a “drug intervention” for the gay community following the recent arrest of an alleged drug dealer aboard an Atlantis gay cruise. “What makes episode particularly unfortunate was the fact that the mainstream press caught wind of it,” writes Mr. Lucas. “(T)he likes of CNN and the Associated Press aired our dirty linens at full mast. This endearing display of what it means when gays ‘party and play’ comes at the same time we’re trying to convince straight society of how deserving we are of marriage and the right to adopt children. These drug-bust episodes only give comfort to our enemies.” He relates a few first-hand anecdotes from his time aboard a cruise for gay men. “I witnessed, at every port, stretchers offloading people who had overdosed. It was no different from New York’s Black Party, where drugs are snorted and pills popped gleefully out in the open. From Fire Island to Miami, every gay circuit party has a medical tent, and they’re busy places… It’s time for our community to stage a collective, lifesaving intervention.” CLICK HERE for the full essay.

Beauty Shot: Logan Scott
February 17, 2011 | 1 Comment
Beauty Shot: Okay, one more blast of male beauty. I’m nurturing a small crush on Logan Scott right now. And he knocked off a solo wank recently for Straight Guys for Gay Eyes. “It takes a special kind of stud to handle the demands of a one-man sex show. He needs to be extremely confident, have an amazing body and—most importantly—he needs to know how to turn on his audience at the same time he’s turning himself on. We think you’ll agree that Logan is more than up to the task,” reads the promo text. “He looks like he stepped out of a military recruiting brochure.” Indeed, indeed. Lance Loud, HBO’s ‘Cinema Verite’ Porn Connection
February 17, 2011 | 1 Comment
Almost exactly one year ago, HBO announced it was heading into production on Cinema Verite, a film chronicling the tumultuous production of An American Family, a nonfiction series starring Bill and Pat Loud and their children that ran on PBS in 1973. As I wrote last spring, the Louds are known today as television’s first reality-TV family. Their trials may appear tame, if not positively quaint, in today’s tabloid culture, but in the early ’70s they were controversial household names. Son Lance Loud was openly gay and was the first man to come out on national television. And he has a tie to the adult biz: He was the title character in the 1996 porno Mr. BLUE, a nonsex role. It was directed by Paul Barresi for Jet Set Productions and costars Chance Caldwell, Rick Estephan, Kip Kasey, Jason Nikas, Todd Stevens and Dallas Taylor, among others. It is available on DVD. Anyway, HBO has released a trailer for Cinema Verite: CLICK HERE (via RealityBlurred). And visit the link below for last spring’s story, which has more details.

‘Hard Choice’ Awards Name Best Sex of the Year
February 17, 2011 | 2 Comments
Press Release Roundup: Longtime porn-biz columnist and reviewer Onan the Vulgarian of XXfactor.com has announced his 17th Annual Hard Choice Awards (compiled with reviewer Harley Shadow). “I feel a lot like Aretha Franklin looking out on the morning rain: uninspired,” he writes. “A fizzling economy, changing technology and the ubiquity of free porn all have conspired to create a ‘perfect storm’ to lure viewers away from professionally produced content and to stifle art. If you can truly reduce live-action filmmaking to the size of your smartphone or iPod screen, I’ve yet to see it.” Nevertheless, “There’s still a lot of exciting porn being produced. Even if the creative thrust is more reactive than proactive. Even if the ‘indies’ are falling by the wayside. On the straight side of things, parodies are the hot items while on the gay side, it seems to be mini-series and reality serials that the studios are cranking out. But is this the best we can do?” In addition to the usual categories, Onan also invents awards on a per-case basis that he feels are justified (Best Daddy-Boy Scene, Best Mind Fuck, Savage Humor Award). FSC Slams L.A. County for Alleged Medical Privacy Violation
February 17, 2011 | 3 Comments
Adult-biz trade organization the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) is excoriating the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for allegedly sending employees to ask for a blood sample from a male porn performer without cause. “The agents offered no court order or other lawful justification for this shocking intrusion into fundamental civil rights,” a rep said in a press announcement released last night. Attorney and FSC Board Chair Jeffrey Douglas advised individuals to “know your rights and protect yourself. You are not a serf living under the whims and dictates of a feudal Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. You can and should ask for a written list of any demand and the authority for those demands.” Gay porn blog The Sword has an interview with the unidentified performer who received a visit from L.A. County Health “in an apparent attempt to isolate how gay porn performer Derrick Burts… became infected with HIV last October,” they write. Direct-to-DVD: Prime for a Comeback?
February 16, 2011 | 4 Comments
Ever since the advent of web-only studios, sexpic DVDs made up of content that originally premiered online have been in play. For years, films that first debuted on DVD were the standard, but not anymore. The shift to web compilations has been as dramatic as the Instant Death of VHS and the Great Porn Magazine Die-Off. Very few all-male blue movies debut on DVD anymore. But I’ve been talking with one company honcho who plans to buck that trend in order to combat piracy. Within hours of his company’s hardcore sex scenes premiering online, they are usually available on torrent and tube sites. His company does spend lots of time and money combating piracy. But the idea is to encourage their customers to pick up the DVD first—if they don’t want to wait—and slow down the process of the inevitable pirated version being made available for free elsewhere. Stay tuned for more details. What do you think? Are direct-to-DVD porn flicks prime for a comeback? Are porn studios fighting a losing battle when it comes to piracy? Chime in below with your thoughts.

Sagat Profiled ‘Out’ Mag, Photos by Terry Richardson
February 15, 2011 | 3 Comments

Press Release Roundup: Performer Francois Sagat was recently designated by Out magazine as one of Queerdom’s most eligible gay bachelors (scroll down a few stories for background). In the current issue of the magazine, he is the subject of a long profile with photos by Terry Richardson. You might recall the tempest in a teapot stirred up last year by the risque photos of female cast members of Glee Mr. Richardson shot for GQ. Mr. Sagat, as we have observed over the past few years, has become an art-world muse. He “celebrates the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ in his own distinct way,” a magazine rep tells me. “In the interview, Sagat remembers his childhood and a contentious relationship with his father.” Writer Tony Phillips also chronicles his youthful transition from “frustrated duckling to badass swan” and includes testimony from writer-director Bruce LaBruce, who cast Mr. Sagat as the lead in last year’s L.A. Zombie. “There wasn’t one moment when he broke out of character,” Mr. LaBruce recalls. He praises Sagat for an ability to “fuck like crazy” opposite a costar “who was out of it on drugs and couldn’t get a hard-on.” Author Dennis Cooper, Mr. Sagat’s costar in another film last year, describes him as “very modest and kind of insecure in a funny way, but he’s a very good actor.” CLICK HERE for the full interview and more photos.

‘Out’ Mag’s Final Bachelor Ranking Drops Skin Studs
February 15, 2011 | 1 Comment

Press Release Roundup: Last month, Out magazine released its ranking of the “100 Most Eligible Gay Bachelors” across Queerdom, and invited readers to whittle down the list by online voting to the top ten most fuckable datable gay dudes. Among the list were three of our boys: Colton Ford, Francois Sagat and Aiden Shaw, who was tickled by the designation and offered via Twitter to arrange a “romping, big ol’ bachelor gangbang” (see the links below). “I guess I’m one of the few in this list that could arrange a threeway with any other,” he said. Alas, Out released its final ranking yesterday and Messrs. Ford, Sagat and Shaw were not included. Singer-actor Jay Brannan was on top, so to speak. (He does have that explicit performance in Shortbus on his resume.) Mr. Brannan is followed by Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken, Chris Colfer, Johnny Weir, Randy Harrison, Tom Lenk, Thom Bierdz, Luke Macfarlane and Scott Evans. CLICK HERE for the Out website. Pacific Sun Predicting Black Rayne
February 15, 2011 | 1 Comment
Press Release Roundup: Boutique label Black Rayne Productions has joined the Pacific Sun Distribution roster. “They are an emerging studio with great growth,” said PacSun CEO Matt Ahnis. “When presented with this opportunity, I would have been stupid not to join hands in distribution matrimony.” The three-year-old label focuses on primarily on the thugporn, all-black and condomless genres. VP of Sales Carlos Williams said they have had success reaching customers outside the core gay-adult DVD market. Black Rayne recently racked up nominations and wins from the FlavaMen Blatino Awards and the JRL Gay Film Awards. They are best known for the BREED IT RAW series, whose latest installment—BREED IT RAW 5: NUTT IN MY GUTT—drops later this month.
