Venerable Studio 2000 Closes Up Shop
March 30, 2011 | 5 Comments
Word began spreading last night that venerable Studio 2000 has closed up shop. “Studio 2000 has gone out of business,” reads a note on their splash page. “Our catalogue of titles will be available later this year from a new web site. Stay tuned for details. We thank your for your patronage these last 18 years.” The abrupt closure is sudden but not unexpected; S2K has been essentially dormant for several years, with only a handful of new titles imported from the Czech Republic and Brazil. In January the company closed its warehouse in San Francisco (see the link below). Constant Readers will recall I was their production manager from 2006-2008, taking over for Chad Donovan. I reached a company rep yesterday evening, who confirmed the closure has been in the works for some time. I’m told a deal for the back catalog will be announced next month. I’ll post a longer remembrance of the studio later on. In the meantime, CLICK HERE for a nice summary of S2K’s history from Fleshbot.

Alright, S2K is closed. Now I want my awards back. That would be GayVn (when they actually handed you an award) 2001 Best Screenplay, Derek Kent, Now and Forever. Grabby 2001 Best Art Direction Derek Kent, Now and Forever and another Grabby for Scout Club, best 18-21(before there were a gazillion companies doing twink) but I’m not sure if I technically get that one. Anyway after this shameless self promotion in long ago past awards, I would just hate to see them end up at some swap meet.
Uhhh…and if they ended up at some swap meet you think anyone would give them a second look?? I think they should just give them to you instead of the garbage can.
Not too broken up about this news. They have not released a decent movie in over a decade. No offense, JC…
Too bad so sad. Anyone wanna take bets on who’s next???
