Dylan Vox Saves Los Angeles from Aliens

I twatted about this bit of news last week but neglected to post about it. As Constant Readers will recall, Brad Benton has been slogging away in the trenches for years trying to build a mainstream acting career. One of gay adult’s genuine talents, he won won numerous porn-biz citations for his performance skills. “Brad Benton” has mostly been on the sidelines of late, but “Dylan Vox” just landed his highest-profile job. He was apparently third-billed in the TV movie Battle for Los Angeles, which aired on the Syfy channel earlier this month, no doubt to cadge on the hype for the feature film Battle: Los Angeles. I’m told his role was prominent despite having few lines. Mr. Vox has to overcome significant hurdles to even get through the door, so to be cast and receive such prominent billing in a TV movie is a real accomplishment. Kudos to him. Battle Over Formation of .XXX Domains Grinds On

Today, ICANN elected to proceed with the formation of .XXX sTLDs (“sponsored top-level domain”) despite protestations from adult-industry trade organization the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) and others in the field, as well as its own advisory committee. ICANN is the organization designed to oversee internet business for the U.S. government. The FSC notes it is the first time ICANN has ignored advice from its own advisors. “We are disappointed but we are not surprised,” said FSC Executive Director Diane Duke. The ICANN Board “has dangerously undervalued the input from governments worldwide. Worse, they have disregarded overwhelming outpouring of opposition from the adult entertainment industry—the supposed sponsorship community—dismissing the interests of free speech on the internet.” Although the industry “must assume that second-level .XXX domain names will be sold,” Ms. Duke said, “the battle is not over. Under ICANN’s bylaws there are review procedures available to affected parties.” The FSC will continue to advocate against the .XXX domain, said Board Chair Jeffrey Douglas. “We will help the industry fully understand the risks and ramifications of participating in .XXX,” he said. In a nutshell, the .XXX domain is intended to readily distinguish pornographic websites and allow parents or employers to easily block such sites. Opponents argue that .XXX would force companies and individuals to re-register their existing domains to prevent cyber-squatting, that such a filtering system is useless without a legal mandate and any legislation requiring its use would violate rights to freedom of speech.
