Bel Ami Kicks off South American Talent Search

Press Release Roundup: Euro-studio Bel Ami will expand its casting to South America for the first time, with a U.S. casting swing on the boards; in fact, the company has already signed a newcomer from the U.S. (see the link below). The venerable company, founded in 1993 by photographer and director George Duroy, maintains offices in Bratislava, Slovakia; Prague, Czech Republic; and Budapest, Hungary. Beginning next month, they will begin searching for fresh talent in Brazil. Casting reps will meet prospective models May 15 at the Golden Tulip Continental in Rio de Janeiro. “Brazilian boys are among the most sensual we’ve seen,” a rep told me. “We believe they’d be a perfect addition to our pool of models.” The rep said Bel Ami is seeking out a combination of “personality, looks and a taste for adventure.” Portuguese-language flyers will be distributed on Ipanema Beach and in the city’s nightclubs for several weeks leading up to the casting session. In 2005, the studio filmed sexpic PINA COLADA in Brazil and took advantage of the lush landscape, but not its local talent. In related news, Bel Ami recently snagged several Trendy Awards nominations, as well as several TLA Gay Awards citations and wins.

Andy O’Neill Moves Up the Ladder at FreshSX

FSC Reaches Out to Gay-Biz Models Affected by Info Leak

Press Release Roundup: Reps at the Free Speech Coalition (FSC), the adult industry trade organization, saw the story we ran on Friday about their offer of legal assistance to any porn performers whose identities and other personal information may have been exposed by operators of the website Porn Wikileaks. They asked that we repost the story. “It has occurred to us from some of the response that gay industry performers may be particularly affected because of the raging homophobia on the PornWikileaks site,” a rep said in a note circulated to bloggers and industry writers. Lucas Files Cease-and-Desist Against Palestinian Group

Press Release Roundup: If you tuned in to my segment on the “Derek & Romaine Show” last week on Sirius XM radio, you heard us dish about performer-mogul Michael Lucas filing a cease-and-desist over the use of Lucas Entertainment photos by the activist group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QAIA). Mr. Lucas has advocated against similar groups in the past (see the link below). He described himself as “amused” to learn they allegedly used stills from his sexpic MEN OF ISRAEL on their protest signs. “I am happy that this series of bestselling movies has made them mad,” he said, “because it shows Israel just the way it is, a joyous and beautiful safe haven for LGBT people. That is the reality of Israel. Obviously that is not how QAIA would like to see Israel portrayed.” Photos of the offending protest signs were taken during a gay pride event in Toronto. “This unauthorized use by QAIA of our client’s image amounts to copyright infringement and a violation of our client’s moral rights,” said Mr. Lucas’ attorney, David Steinberg. “We therefore demand that [they] immediately cease and desist from using this image any further as part of [their] negative propaganda campaign against Israel or otherwise.” At post time, QAIA had not responded to Lucas’ cease-and-desist on their website.

Steele, Romoni Debate Condoms, Safer Sex in Porn

Earlier this week, the UCLA Reproductive Health Interest Group (RHIG) co-sponsored with several other organizations the latest in a series of panel discussions on the use of condoms in adult filmmaking. This panel’s focus was on gay porn. Included in the discussion were Chris Steele, performer-turned-director and head of production for Jet Set Men; Rob Romoni, who serves as Jet Set’s director of casting and marketing; newcomer Adam Russo, who has filmed for Titan Media and Club Inferno; and ex-model Trent Austin. Also present was Derrick Burts, whose recent revelation of his HIV-positive status has been the source of much controversy. Industry publication AVN.com has a lengthy description of the discussion, far more than can be adequately summarized. Better to take 10 minutes and read up for youself. However, there was a significant amount of back-and-forth over the ramifications of legalizing condoms in adult filmmaking as well as the proper procedures for testing and informing performers of their HIV status. Gay-for-Pay, Dustin Zito, Porn and MTV

Much has been made in recent weeks of the casting of Dustin Zito on the current season of The Real World on MTV. As our Constant Readers are aware, the studly young buck was a popular presence on several all-male porn sites and it marks an intriguing point in pop culture that producers and MTV executives felt any potential controversy over the presence of a porn actor would be worth the risk. However, the show’s ratings have shown no appreciable dip and there has been no real outcry. Now, Andy Dehnart of RealityBlurred has excerpted an new interview with Real World producer Jon Murray, who explains that during casting he felt Mr. Zito’s blue movie work “was a really interesting story” and saw potential for their audience to relate to Zito’s desire to move beyond it. Mr. Murray also said any move to scrub sexually explicit material from the interwebs was likely instigated by Zito himself, not MTV. RealityBlurred additionally takes note of what appears to be an expression of homophobia on a recent Real World episode.
