Erotica Legend Ryan Idol Pouring ‘Cocktails’ Tonight

As I blogged yesterday morning (scroll down or click the link below), I had an illuminating phone chat several days ago with erotica legend Ryan Idol. He’s in WeHo to promote tonight’s meet-and-greet for Cocktails with the Stars at Micky’s nightclub. Hotbod Dominic Pacifico will serve as celebrity DJ with emcee Scotty B. and talent manger David Forest, who brought in Mr. Idol and is curating this month’s slate of Thursday-night headliners. These days, Mr. Idol is in culinary school. His family owned a diner when he was growing up and cooking is in his blood; it’s also a career he can use to support himself while he pursues acting and other side gigs. Among the projects is a one-man show. Mr. Idol quizzed me about the current state of GayPornLand; he first appeared on the scene and rose to stardom prior to the omnipresence of gossip blogs, Perez Hilton, TMZ and social networking. “It was so much more controlled, more exclusive back then,” he said, adding that in today’s frenzied gossip waters, “I would have just been eaten up.” I asked Mr. Idol to pick his favorites of his own blue movies and he quickly cited IDOL COUNTRY, IDOL EYES and SCORE 10 (the ’91 Matt Sterling classic from whence this photo was drawn). “Those movies really set the stage for my career,” he said. He also thanked Mr. Forest for being his connection to the adult world, and gets a real kick out of his icon status. “I’m humbled,” he told me. “It was a hell of a ride. I had a lot of fun. It was how I found out who I am. I’m really glad I was part of liberating male sexuality, that I could be the face of what being a gay male could mean. I can love a man and I can love a woman.
