RIP: Bel Ami, Hammer Model Evan Cobb

We have more unhappy news to report today. Performer Evan Cobb, who appeared onscreen in several films for Bel Ami and Hammer Entertainment, died on April 28. He was in his early twenties; the COD was suicide. Bel Ami founder George Duroy confirmed the details. A slender, feline beauty with blue eyes and blond curls, Mr. Cobb appeared on the cover of 2009′s EYE CONTACT (with Julien Hussey) for Bel Ami’s Lukas Ridgeston label. Despite being new on the scene, he was given solo placement on the cover of Hammer Entertainment’s BANANA SHAKE, also in ’09, and anchored LOVE HOUSE (Raw Eyes Productions) a year later. I was introduced to the young man by Mr. Duroy on a trip to Bratislava early last year. He was quiet and reserved with a seductive mien. Our condolences to his family, friends, co-workers and fans.

I certainly wish we had some context to this tragic choice this young man made. I certainly hope it wasn’t related to his job or his sexuality, although it would be so sad regardless of the reason.
I did ask about regarding the circumstances surrounding Evan’s passing, and I’m told it wasn’t related to his sexuality or the fact that he worked in porn. I’ll run an update if I get more concrete details.

Not that I’m any kind of expert, but as I understand the Eastern European culture, there’s nowhere near the amount of taboo associated with gay sex as there is in America, so conflict and/or shame are unlikely to be the cause. At least, I hope that’s the case. RIP.
As a former porn performer, I know from what I speak by saying that many in the gay porn industry are seeking validation of some kind, like I was. And while porn can APPEAR TO MASK that void needing to be filled, at some point, it shows itself to not be enough. At that point, one either finds a way to HONESTLY fill that void, practice escapism by way of drugs and/or alcohol, or suicide, like Evan Cobb did.
With my experience with European males, I must 2nd EdWoody’s assessment about there not being as much a hang-up about sexuality like there is here in America. So I don’t think that was the issue. BUT there is the possibility that like many young people entering the porn industry, he didn’t see the BIG picture of how whoever he didn’t want knowing about him doing porn would find out somehow – and them not being pleased when they discovered it.
Sad news…
He wasn’t only a pornstar but also worked as a dancer/stripper/rentboy in a club in Prague. That might have contributed too!
It’s important, I think, to note that Evan was dealing with other issues in his life. I’m told his passing was NOT related to his being a sex worker.

Wow, I really am shocked. I just yesterday “found” this guy. Really, I bought one of his movies yesterday. I was taken with him immediatly, what a good looking guy, his little “interview” session in the movie City Life 2 was nice, it made you feel like he was really chatting to you. What a sad story, It makes you wish someone could have helped him. I know from real life exp. that no one really can do much once someone makes up their minds to do this… Very sad, RIP Evan. Curious, did he have a signifigant other? Prayers go out to them if he did…

I feel it ironic from my end that I would find out about Evan or finally know of him only after he has left us. I saw his picture on the cover of Eye Contact but I never truly knew of him. When I saw the photo session he did with BA’s Julien Hussey and subsequent sex scene with him in Eye Contact, I was immediately taken with him, by them both, actually. It would be the first time I would call attention to Julien and when I saw them together it seemed they just had this very natural sweet report, and a lovely connection. I fell in love with them both. Also recently I saw a scene Evan had with Val Horner from the same film. He brought to both of these scenes a very genuine, passionate and sweet disposition. It’s these moments of beautiful erotica I want to remember Evan for and not think of the reason why he chose to leave us, and far too soon. Those reasons seem immaterial to me when I think that the world has lost another beautiful young person and I can’t help but still feel an intense feeling of loss. The heavens have gained another beautiful new star, but on a more personal level, I gained another lovely muse to go with all the other lovely BA ones I have already enshrined in my heart.
It’s natural, I think for us to want to know the reason why Evan chose such a desperate act and it’s that reason that he took with him. Yet, it always seems in those matters that there is at least one person that was the closest to him who knew what he was struggling with and possibly knows the real reason he chose to end his life. It’s this person, if he or she exists, that is maintaining silence out of either love or respect. And it’s this person who is grieving the most. I say, as Evans’ fans, our hearts should equally go out to this person and stand with them in their moment of deep sorrow and offer him or her our comfort and support.
He’s going to be dearly missed, but he has a loving, forever home now on my blog.
